"My parents were shocked when they found out I was sexually active"
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut discloses that her parents were shocked to discover she has an active sex life.
Sex, which is often considered a taboo subject in India, can still raise eyebrows if discussed openly or in public.
Kangana is known for always being candid and speaking her mind and she certainly does not shy away from sex.
She feels that instead of disregarding conversations about sex, parents should teach their children to have safe and responsible intercourse.
Talking about her own experiences, Kangana frankly mentioned her parents’ disbelief at her revelation.
She made it clear that while sex is crucial, you should not be obsessed with the idea.
According to Pinkvilla.com, Kangana explained:
“Sex is an important aspect of everyone’s life. When you want sex, just have it. Don’t be obsessed.”
She continued to state why she thinks sex is not openly discussed:
“There was a time when you were told to marry someone, and your emotions were directed towards that person. In history, because of invasions, people’s ideas are still there, that our scriptures don’t allow sex.”
Kangana holds strong views on this matter. She believes parents should support sex:
“Parents should be happy with children having sex. Children should have responsible sex. My parents were shocked when they found out I was sexually active. Parents should encourage children to have sex.”
Her views are further elaborated through her onscreen characters. In this instance, in the film Simran (2017), Kangana pushed for the topic of sex to be showcased.
It was reported that she improvised in the sex scene with the stranger in a Las Vegas casino. Her character was seen saying the line:
“No protection, no sex.”
Kangana last graced the big screen with the film Judgementall Hai Kya (2019) starring alongside Rajkummar Rao.
Despite the film not meeting expectations, her performance was applauded. She was seen portraying a girl named Bobby who was scarred by the death of her parents.
Her mental fragility and events that unravel highlight insensitivity and the habit of incisive labelling.
Kangana is set to star in a biopic film about the late Tamil Nadu Politician, J. Jayalalithaa.
Another film she has underway is Panga, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. It is due to release in 2020.
The list does not end here, alongside her 2020 release Kangana will be seen in the action thriller film, Dhaakad (2020).
It is refreshing to see a Bollywood actress take charge and attempt to tackle sexual stereotypes. Kangana emphasises the strain forced on women to conceal their sex life and this is truly worthy of praise.
