"I love it not only for the breadth of theatrical talent it celebrates"

Nick Mohammed will host the 2026 Olivier Awards as the ceremony marks its 50th anniversary.

The prestigious event celebrates achievements in theatre, dance and opera across the UK’s world-leading stage industry.

The star-studded ceremony will take place at the iconic Royal Albert Hall on April 12, 2026. Highlights will be broadcast on BBC television and radio.

Established in 1976, the awards are overseen by the Society of London Theatre. Winners are selected by industry figures, stage professionals and theatre-loving members of the public.

Nick Mohammed is a comedian, writer and actor known for work across television, film and theatre.

His television credits also include leading roles in Deep Cover, Slow Horses and Intelligence, which he created, wrote and executive produced.

Mohammed gained global recognition for his role as Nathan Shelley in the hit series Ted Lasso, which earned him two Emmy nominations.

He is a familiar face for BBC audiences, having reached the final of Celebrity Traitors.

Nick Mohammed has also built a strong reputation as a live performer. His character-driven comedy and writing have appeared in the West End and theatres across the UK.

Mohammed’s appointment continues a tradition of high-profile hosts for the Olivier Awards.

He follows in the footsteps of his Ted Lasso co-star Hannah Waddingham, who presented the awards in 2023 and 2024.

The 2025 ceremony was co-hosted by Beverley Knight and Billy Porter.

Nick Mohammed said:

“To host the Oliviers in its 50th year is not only a dream come true but an absolute honour and privilege.”

“I love it not only for the breadth of theatrical talent it celebrates, but also for the extraordinary variety of live performances it showcases on the night itself.

“While I will try to remain in the wings during these, I can’t promise I won’t be singing along (in full voice).

“But at least I won’t be on roller-skates this time!”

The Olivier Awards 2026 will be delivered in collaboration with the Society of London Theatre and Penny Lane Entertainment.

It was commissioned for BBC Arts by Suzy Klein. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Stephen James-Yeoman.

The Olivier Awards remain the UK’s most prestigious theatre honours. The 2026 ceremony will celebrate five decades of recognising outstanding stage talent.
