"James was the absolute centre of our world"
The family of a father of two who died after a car crashed through the entrance of a Lidl supermarket in Wolverhampton have paid tribute to his “kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour”.
James Singh Jagpal was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to the collision shortly before 6 pm on October 23.
In a statement issued by police, his family said:
“James was the absolute centre of our world, and it is unimaginable how we will navigate life without him by our side.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff, customers and emergency services who immediately came to James’ aid at the scene.”
Mr Jagpal, who was from Wolverhampton, was described by his family as “a much-loved son and brother, devoted partner of over 20 years and loving father to two wonderful daughters”.
His family have also appealed to the public not to share distressing footage showing the aftermath of the fatal collision online.
Two other people who suffered serious injuries inside the supermarket have since been discharged from hospital, West Midlands Police confirmed.
The driver, a woman in her 70s, has also been released from hospital and will be “spoken to in due course”.
Four further people were treated by paramedics and discharged at the scene.
Floral tributes have been left outside the supermarket as the store remains closed while repair work is carried out.
A message attached to a bunch of pink flowers with a purple ribbon read: “Thoughts and prayers for the young man who died, his family and friends.”
Lidl said it was saddened by the incident and confirmed the store would remain closed until further notice.
West Midlands Police said Mr Jagpal’s death was not being treated as suspicious and have appealed for witnesses and anyone with relevant footage to come forward as enquiries continue.
A spokesperson said: “We want to understand what might have caused the collision and would especially like to see any dashcam footage which might show the car involved.
“If you remember seeing a blue Renault Zoe immediately before the collision, please get in touch.”
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area between 5 pm and 6 pm on October 23 and may have witnessed the incident or captured relevant dashcam footage.
