"I am swallowing my pride and asking for your help"
A London-based Sikh restaurateur who caused controversy over his refusal to serve halal meat has appealed to customers to help save his business.
Harman Singh Kapoor previously announced the closure of his restaurant Rangrez following a bitter dispute over its non-halal policy.
He said his current business, Singh’s Dining, is struggling to survive, claiming Google is allowing fake one-star reviews while rejecting genuine five-star ratings.
In a social media post, Kapoor publicly appealed for bookings.
He urged customers to visit the restaurant and share his message.
Kapoor wrote: “Today, I am swallowing my pride and asking for your help to save my restaurant. Running a restaurant is more than a business to me.
“It’s my passion, my livelihood, and something I have worked incredibly hard to build.”
Accusing Google of allowing negative reviews while preventing positive feedback, Kapoor added:
“Right now, Google is accepting only 1-star fake reviews, while genuine 5-star reviews from customers are not being accepted. You can try posting a 5-star review and see for yourself.
“With outstanding rent and our landlord threatening court proceedings, the pressure is unbearable.”
Harman Singh Kapoor accusations remain unverified and it is unclear whether Google has taken action in response to his claims.
The appeal comes months after he announced plans to close Rangrez, which operated for around 16 years on Fulham Palace Road in Hammersmith, West London.
In February 2026, Kapoor said the decision was due to rising costs, online harassment, repeated disturbances and what he described as inadequate police support.
Kapoor has become a polarising figure for his emphasis that he doesn’t serve halal food and his alleged anti-Muslim sentiments.
In March 2026, he promoted what he described as a “Non-Halal meetup”, encouraging supporters to bring recording equipment to document disturbances.
A confrontation subsequently took place, and Kapoor was detained by police.
He later claimed that he had been unlawfully arrested and detained for nearly 24 hours.
In May, he said he intended to pursue legal action against the Metropolitan Police and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, accusing them of discriminatory treatment.
Today, I’m swallowing my pride and asking for your help to save my restaurant.
Running a restaurant is more than a business to me. It’s my passion, my livelihood, and something I’ve worked incredibly hard to build.
We’re facing one of our hardest times. Right now, @Google is accepting only 1-star fake reviews, while genuine 5-star reviews from customers are not being accepted. You can try posting a 5-star review and see for yourself. This is seriously affecting our business. With outstanding rent and our landlord threatening court proceedings, the pressure is unbearable.

Urging locals to support Singh’s dining, Kapoor added:
“We’re proud to be a non-Halal restaurant and want to keep serving our community for years to come.”
“If you can’t visit, please share this post with friends and family. Every booking, share, and a bit of support means more than you can imagine.

Many X users criticised Kapoor for his appeal, pointing out his controversial beliefs and sharing screenshots of his responses to those who had left one-star reviews.

Some users said they have purposely posted one-star reviews in response to his appeal, which was described as “desperate”.
Singh’s Dining has a Google rating of 2.6 out of five, based on 20 ratings.
