"The luxuriance of Indian couture is unparalleled, things you see in India you see nowhere else."
Fans of Christian Louboutin and Sabyasachi Mukherjee rejoice! The two designers have launched their new shoe collection, presenting luxurious, beautiful styles.
The two had announced their collaboration back in October 2017. But now, their range is finally unveiled.
Titled as ‘Christain Louboutin X Sabyasachi’, the line-up presents a variety of women’s and men’s shoes; from stylish slippers to glamorous heels.
Women are treated to fifteen jaw-dropping styles, while men can enjoy choosing from four designs.
Each pair of shoes is created with fabrics from sarees and ribbons, selected from Mukherjee’s archive. This means that they hail as original and authentic pieces – ideal for those who want to stand out from the crowd. But this does mean they come in limited quantities.
Customers can even request specially made styles. Expect to save up though, as the collection’s prices range between $1,095 (approx. £862) to $4,995 (approx. £3,771).
In addition, these shoes are only available in a select few stores around the world. This includes Just One Eye in Los Angeles and Harrods in London.
The two designers spoke to Vogue about their exciting collaboration. Christian began working with Sabyasachi in 2015; a process that felt “very organic – very Indian, in a way”. He explained:
“Mukherjee asked me if I could do shoes for his couture fashion shows in India, after we met randomly by accident in his Mumbai store. We started to collaborate, integrating my shoes in his shows and from that it was a natural step for me to do this collection.”
For their capsule range, they chose locations such as Los Angeles for various reasons. While it hails as the second home for Christian, it also presents a new audience for Sabyasachi. Since 1999, he has grown popular amongst US and Bollywood stars.
Figures such as Deepika Padukone and Reese Witherspoon have dazzled the red carpet with his gowns. The designer creates pieces with his iconic embellished styles; some which feature in our saree trends for 2018.
“The luxuriance of Indian couture is unparalleled, things you see in India you see nowhere else,” added Christian, revealing his love for the country’s fashion.
But their project is more than just creating luxurious pieces; it highlights those who create the fabrics for these shoes. Sabyasachi explained:
“The good thing about these collaborations is that they put a spotlight on communities that need help, that have been doing handicrafts for European nobility and Indian nobility for hundreds of years.
“That’s the reason I’ve always supported handicraft because that will be the future of luxury.”
While the collection is only available in selected stores, fans will hope they can get their hands on a pair of these stunning shoes.
