Sharma now faces first and second-degree murder charges

A US Indian woman was found fatally stabbed inside her ex-boyfriend’s apartment after he reported her missing and fled to India.

Nikitha Godishala was allegedly killed by her ex-partner Arjun Sharma inside his Columbia apartment just after 7 pm on New Year’s Eve, detectives believe.

Investigators say Sharma reported Godishala missing on January 2 as part of an alleged attempt to mislead authorities. Police believe he boarded a flight to India later that same day.

The next day, Howard County Police executed a search warrant at Sharma’s apartment. Inside, officers discovered Godishala’s body with multiple stab wounds.

Sharma now faces first and second-degree murder charges in connection with Godishala’s death. Police have issued a warrant for his arrest.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and a possible motive has not yet been identified. Detectives are continuing to piece together the sequence of events.

Because Sharma has left the United States, Howard County Police are working with federal agencies to locate and detain him.

Officials have confirmed international cooperation is underway.

The Indian Embassy confirmed that it has been in contact with Godishala’s family. It said consular support is being provided during the investigation.

The statement read: “The Embassy is in contact with the family of Ms Nikitha Godishala and is extending all possible consular assistance.

“The Embassy is also following up the matter with the local authorities.”

Godishala lived in Ellicott City, Maryland, and worked as a data and strategy analyst.

She studied at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad and earned a doctorate degree in pharmacy.

She later continued her education at the University of Baltimore County. There, she obtained a master’s degree in health information technology.

In a Facebook post shared in February 2025, Godishala expressed interest in moving to Orlando, Florida. She wrote about her hobbies and personal interests.

“In my free time, you’ll find me walking my dog, binge-watching Netflix, or taking workout classes,” she wrote. The post was aimed at potential landlords and roommates.

She also had a young Golden Retriever mix, which she frequently featured online and described as deeply loved. Friends said the dog was a central part of her life.

Godishala’s social media accounts showed her celebrating milestones and spending time with friends. Many posts reflected her professional and personal achievements.

Just three weeks ago, she received the All-In Award from Vheda Health. The recognition praised her diligence and devotion to her work.
