Veteran television actress Ayesha Khan was found dead in her Karachi apartment, a discovery that has left the entertainment industry shocked.

The 77-year-old actress was found in her Gulshan-e-Iqbal residence on June 19, 2025.

The police reported that her body had likely gone unnoticed for nearly a week.

Neighbours alerted the authorities after noticing a strong odour coming from the apartment.

Police entered the premises and found her body.

The body was transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre before being moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth.

Officials have confirmed that a post-mortem is pending, as they await the arrival of her son.

Khan had reportedly been living alone for years, with both her children living outside Karachi.

Authorities suspect she may have passed away in the bathroom, but final conclusions are on hold pending further examination.

The actress, remembered for her iconic roles in Afshan, Aroosa, Family Front, and Mehendi, was part of Pakistani television’s golden era.

Her legacy spanned over five decades and included many unforgettable portrayals of strong, complex women.

She was also the elder sister of the late actress Khalida Riasat.

Her passing, particularly the circumstances around it, has stirred public heartbreak and a storm of questions.

Mishi Khan expressed grief on Instagram, stating that she was shattered to know her former co-star was left alone for so long.

She questioned the absence of Ayesha Khan’s children, especially her daughter, former model Aliya Bibi.

Nadia Khan echoed similar concerns, saying the industry must be more responsible toward its senior members.

She stressed that veteran actors, particularly those living alone, should not be forgotten.

Yasir Hussain also criticised the entertainment fraternity for its tendency to forget artists once they fade from the limelight.

Behroze Sabzwari recalled that she had gradually stopped socialising in the past couple of years.

He admitted feeling deeply disturbed about how Ayesha Khan’s life ended.

Ali Abbas also lamented that she had reportedly been out of close contact with anyone for over seven years.

On social media, people voiced shock and disappointment, with many questioning how her children allowed her to live alone in such isolation.

Some also reflected on the responsibility of neighbours and society at large.

Arts Council of Pakistan President Ahmed Shah called her passing a significant loss for Pakistani drama.
