“This is the biggest gift of my life.”
A star-studded screening of Utshob lit up Dhaka’s Star Cineplex SKS Tower branch on the night of June 18, 2025.
The screening turned the spotlight on this year’s most talked-about Eid release.
Actors, directors, musicians, writers, economists, and politicians gathered under one roof to celebrate the film’s critical and commercial success.
Among them were filmmaker and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, as well as BRAC Chairperson Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman.
Writer Anu Muhammad and politician Zonayed Saki were also in attendance.
The screening marked a special public reunion for the film’s cast and crew, with director Tanim Noor welcoming the guests warmly.
One of the most emotional moments came when veteran actor Zahid Hasan took the stage for the first time since his hospitalisation.
Looking clearly overwhelmed, he said: “It feels like Eid for me today.”
Aupee Karim was also visibly emotional, wiping away tears.
Zahid added: “I’ve worked in several films and won a National Award, but I’ve never seen such excitement or so many cameras pointed at me.
“This is the biggest gift of my life.”
Utshob, co-produced by Dope Productions and Chorki, has revived audience interest in theatres, something Farooki highlighted in his remarks.
He said: “When we started in television, we just wanted to tell our stories our own way. Today’s young filmmakers are doing exactly that.”
Anu Muhammad also praised the film, saying:
“Films like Utshob make people want to come back to theatres.”
Redoan Rony, CEO of Chorki, also noted a welcome change in viewing habits.
He said: “After many years, families are coming together to enjoy cinema. This is a win for our industry.”
The evening also featured two of the film’s standout songs, ‘Tumi’ by Level Five and ‘Dhushor Shomoy’ by Artcell.
They were performed by artists who attended the event.
Utshob stars Zahid Hasan, Chanchal Chowdhury, Jaya Ahsan, Aupee Karim, Afsana Mimi, Tariq Anam Khan, Azad Abul Kalam, and Intekhab Dinar.
The ensemble cast also includes Sunerah Binte Kamal, Sadia Ayman, and Soumya Jyoti.
The script was written by Tanim Noor, Ayman Asib Shadhin, Sushmoy Sarkar and Samiul Bhuiyan, while the cinematography was carried out by Rashed Zaman.
Utshob will begin its international run from June 20, 2025. International distribution is being handled by Shopno Scarecrow and Poth Productions.
