“Can Jaya even speak properly? Deliver a line?”
The first teaser of the upcoming Eid film Utshob has dropped, sparking buzz with its blend of humour, warmth, and meta-commentary.
Directed by Tanim Noor, the film steps away from the usual Eid thrillers and action blockbusters.
Instead, it offers a heartfelt family comedy packed with introspection, satire, and celebration.
The teaser bursts with energy, featuring quick-witted lines and festive visuals.
Viewers are greeted with a lively background score that captures the mood of Eid.
Snippets of dialogue from the lead cast immediately set the tone.
Chanchal Chowdhury’s character jokes: “Turn on the TV these days, and it’s all Chanchal Chowdhury, he’s everywhere!”
The humour is self-aware and intentional, with characters blurring the line between fiction and reality.
Jaya Ahsan adds to this playful self-reference, saying:
“Can Jaya even speak properly? Deliver a line?”
Aupee Karim chimes in: “Just because I took a break, have people forgotten how I look?”
These lines appear to mock public perception of the actors, inviting audiences to laugh at the characters and the personas they represent.
According to a statement from Chorki, director Tanim welcomed these interpretations.
He revealed that Utshob isn’t just about joy.
“Eid is a time for renewal and self-reflection.”
The film seeks to balance joy with emotion and sincerity.
Tanim explained: “We created Utshob as something families can enjoy together. The joy of Eid is meant to be shared.”
The teaser ends on a nostalgic note.
Chanchal’s character delivers a puzzled line: “How odd! Why did he get so angry?”
Fans of the beloved TV classic Aaj Robibar will instantly recognise the reference.
The film promises several such nods to familiar Bangladeshi pop culture moments, aiming to evoke both laughter and warmth.
Utshob features one of the most star-studded casts in recent projects.
The lineup includes Zahid Hasan, Jaya Ahsan, Aupee Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, and Tariq Anam Khan.
Other notable names include Azad Abul Kalam, Intekhab Dinar, Sunerah Binte Kamal, Shommo Joyti, and Sadia Ayman.
Produced by DOP Productions, Utshob is presented by BRAC Bank, co-produced by Chorki, and supported by Laughing Elephant.
Swapna Scarecrow and Poth Productions will manage its global release.
The screenplay was written by Ayman Asib Shadhin and Samiul Bhuiyan. Rashed Zaman handled cinematography.
The story was developed by Shadhin, Bhuiyan, Tanim Noor, and Sushmoy Sarkar.
With its cheeky tagline, “Legally mandated warning. Not for solo viewing. Bring your family”, Utshob has positioned itself as a must-watch for Eid.
