“Daddy, it was $60 million."
Saturday Night Live UK kicked off its second season by taking aim at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and their move back to the UK.
The broadcast opened with Jack Shep and Ayoade Bamgboye portraying Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
In the sketch, they visited Balmoral to see King Charles and Queen Camilla, played by Larry Dean and Emma Sidi, who reprise their roles from the first series.
Upon entering Balmoral, Harry exclaimed: “Daddy, I’m home!”
Mocking their status as non-working royals, Charles told them that Balmoral was for “royals only”.
Camilla also welcomed Meghan by describing her as “as brown as ever”.
The sketch also mocked Meghan’s lifestyle brand and her Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
Meghan claimed she was a “whizz in the kitchen” before presenting Camilla with a block of ice as a gift. Meanwhile, Harry quipped:
“It’s true, she hires the best cooks.”
Harry and Meghan then explained that they planned to move back to the UK, prompting Charles to ask:
“Don’t tell me you spent all your Netflix money already?”
Harry whiningly replied: “Daddy, it was $60 million.
“How long was it meant to last? I’m not asking for much.”
Harry then explained that he “doesn’t want to be a regular guy” before Andy Burnham, played by George Fouracres, appeared.
“Did somebody say ‘regular guy’? I’m the new PM and I’m nothing like the last one,” he said, referencing Fouracres’ portrayal of then-Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the first series of SNL UK.
The sketch went on to make several jokes about Burnham, who became Prime Minister in July, before ending with an exaggerated speech about his background.
Burnham said: “Like Gary Barlow before me, I’m just a regular man from the north with a dream, a relatable manner and a massive son.”
The sketch was brought to a close when Harry and Meghan ultimately decided they would also be “regular” like Burnham.
SNL UK then moved into a musical performance from this week’s host, Wicked star Jeff Goldblum, while Irish singer CMAT performed later in the show.
The British sketch comedy spin-off returned this weekend with all 11 original cast members involved, while Such Brave Girls star Freddie Meredith has also joined the troupe.
SNL UK will return next weekend for its second episode, with Jamie Demetriou hosting on September 19.
Amelia Dimoldenberg is then set to host the following episode on September 26.
