According to a spokesperson, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are losing their residence on the Windsor estate of the British royal family, leaving them without a base in the country.

The late Queen Elizabeth II gave them the use of Frogmore Cottage as a wedding gift in 2018, and they renovated it at an estimated cost of £2.4 million.

According to reports, Prince Andrew has now been offered it.

A representative for the US-based couple stated:

“We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”

Just a few days after the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare in January 2023, he and his wife allegedly received a notice instructing them to leave the property.

Buckingham Palace opted not to respond to the allegations.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III – who has long favoured a slimmed-down monarchy – has been overhauling the family’s finances.

Andrew’s present home, the 30-room Royal Lodge, which is also on the Windsor estate, may have to be given up if his yearly stipend of £250,000 were to be eliminated because of the enormous maintenance requirements.

The pair have “until early summer to vacate”, according to a source cited by Harry and Meghan’s unofficial biographer Omid Scobie.

According to Scobie, the pair “initially were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation” in May 2023.

Scobie also quoted a friend of the couple as saying:

“It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment. It’s like (the royal family) want to cut them out of the picture for good.”

Despite the claims, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited to King Charles III’s coronation.

In 2020, Harry and Meghan abruptly left the life of royalty and relocated to California.

Since then, they have participated in a number of projects, including an Oprah Winfrey interview and a Netflix documentary, in which they have voiced complaints about their royal experiences.

When Spare was released in January 2023, it broke sales records but also caused a decline in Harry’s popularity on both sides of the Atlantic.

However, Andrew’s association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein led to his exclusion from public life.

Andrew and the accuser Virginia Giuffre reached a monetary settlement in a sexual assault lawsuit in the US in 2022.
