"I just hope to bring back those beautiful memories."
For many people globally, Diwali is a festival of light, love, togetherness, and triumph. That is certainly the case for Ekta Rana, who is set to dazzle us with her song, ‘Diwali Ki Raat’.
Based in London, Ekta is a talented and vibrant singer-songwriter, known for her elegant compositions and mellifluous voice.
In a collaboration with the Mumbai-based producer Parikishit Mishal, ‘Diwali Ki Raat’ celebrates the beloved festival like never before.
The single was recorded at Ghazal Studio in North London, owned by Keval Joshi.
The project also received support from the multi-award-winning Boutique Monalisa Sarees, which sponsored Ekta’s outfit, and The Bangle Boutique, whose handcrafted bangles added a traditional touch to her look.
In an exclusive interview with DESIblitz, Ekta shed a light on ‘Diwali Ki Raat’ and what makes this song so special.
What inspired you to compose Diwali Ki Raat?
‘Diwali Ki Raat’ is a beautiful song about love and memories – the little things that make Diwali so special to us.
In this song, I just wanted to capture the real feel of Diwali.
For example, how your mother makes the mithai, sweets, lighting divas at home, and decorating with lights.
How did the collaboration with Parikshit Mishal come about?
We have been connected via social media. As he is a producer, I was kind of following his work and his releases.
This time, I thought that there could be an opportunity for us to work together.
We got in touch, and I shared my composition with him. He said he would love to work on that.
So, he started work on mixing, production, and mastering the song.
It was a real pleasure to work with him.
How did the brands involved in Diwali Ki Raat impact its creation, and why was this collaboration special to you?
‘Diwali Ki Raat’ has been such a lovely journey for me, because this is the first time I’ve collaborated with two brands.
Apart from Parakshit, there were Monalisa Sarees and The Bangle Boutique.
They have both sponsored my look in the videos, which will be released on November 1, 2026.
What I really love most about this project is how it brought together these talented local artists, who are so passionate about what they do.
It was so wonderful to support their work and have them supporting my work, and my own musical vision. It was great.
How does this song differ from your previous compositions, and how does it carry the message of Diwali?
I usually write about love and relationships like in ‘Colours of Love’ and ‘Jhoom‘.
‘Diwali Ki Raat’ is a little different, because I’ve actually brought all those emotions into the Diwali atmosphere.
The interesting thing is that I wrote the lyrics as a poem and I shared it on Instagram.
I did not really plan to turn it into a song at the time, but almost a year later, in September 2026, I was reading the poem and I quickly hummed a melody, and that’s when I thought that I must release it during Diwali.
But also, the difference is, unlike my previous compositions, this song captures the feeling of celebrating Diwali and all these memories we’ve grown up with our loved ones.
So, it’s definitely got a different warmth and a festive touch.
Can you tell us about your musical training and the role your Guruji plays in your journey?
I’ve been learning under my Guruji, Mehboob Nadeem Ji, since 2015. I’m learning Hindustani classical music from him.
Along with writing and composing my own songs, I’m not just learning that. I get to learn to understand music better and become a better singer.
In this way, I wish to understand the beauty of the traditions of the music I’m learning. It’s not just about learning the notes or the ragas.
I think, in an indirect way, it also helps me get the feel as to what I can use.
This song, ‘Diwali Ki Raat’ is kind of based on Rag Megh. I think I’ve learned how to understand that from Guruji.
I feel very fortunate to have Mehboob Ji’s guidance, and I hope to learn and grow more as a singer and a songwriter.
What do you hope listeners take away from the song?
I hope people would feel the warmth, love, and nostalgia I felt when I was creating ‘Diwali Ki Raat’.
Since I’m away from home, I miss celebrating Diwali with my mum.
My mum is in India, and I’m sure many people living away from home can relate to that feeling.
Through this song, I just hope to bring back those beautiful memories that make people feel a little closer to home, wherever they are in the world.
Most of all, I hope people connect with the emotions of the song, enjoy listening to it, and make ‘Diwali Ki Raat’ a little part of their Diwali celebrations.
Through her wise and inspiring words, Ekta Rana passionately and beautiful conveys what ‘Diwali Ki Raat’ means to her.
From her wonderful collaborations with Parikshit and the aforementioned brands, to her journey under her Guruji, she is sure to brighten our Diwali celebrations uniquely and unforgettably.
‘Diwali Ki Raat’ releases on November 1, 2026.
