Can you tell us about Colours of Love and what inspired you to create this album?
Ekta Rana equates love with colours and therefore has several feelings and connotations.
Colours of Love pays tribute to these ideas of love.
Ekta is attracted to the idea that love encompasses every juncture in life.
What do the themes explored in the album mean to you?
Ekta explains that she has dedicated one of the songs – ‘Maa’ – to her mother who lives in India.
This song relates to the theme of motherly affection as it reminds Ekta of her memories with her mother.
The singer believes that the audience will find resonance with this song.
How was the experience of collaborating with Kuljit Bhamra on this album?
When Ekta Rana first met Kuljit Bhamra, she sang as part of his album which was released in 2024.
Ekta and Kuljit Ji subsequently decided on a collaboration.
When they discussed Colours of Love, Ekta realised that he was going to bring something special to the album.
Can you please explain what the songbook entails?
Ekta explains that the songbook of the album contains the lyrics of each song.
Each song describes different emotions of love and its varying forms.
The songbook also sheds light on what the lyrics mean and why Ekta wrote them.
Why did you decide to include a song about nature in an album about love?
Ekta Rana recognises that nature is easy to be taken for granted.
Via her song, ‘Khoobsoorat Jahan’, she expresses the importance of properly appreciating the beauty of nature.
She highlights that the lyrics of the song were co-written by her daughter.
What inspired you to become a musician?
Ekta cites the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar as her lifelong inspiration.
Listening to her songs and Ekta’s classical training during her teenage years strengthened Ekta’s desire to become a musician.
She returned to her craft in 2014 but she had a keen desire to be a songwriter which came true during the production of Colours of Love.
What do you hope listeners will take away from Colours of Love?
Ekta hopes that listeners will see a reflection of themselves in the songs of the album.
She describes the album as a spectrum of the moods of love.
Ekta is hopeful that every listener finds a resonance in each song.
What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?
Ekta Rana feels that though Valentine’s Day generally represents the bond of two lovers, self-love is the most important emotion.
She notes lyrics of a song from the album that is titled ‘Yakeen’.
The words underline the value of loving oneself and things automatically falling into place from that emotion.
Through her wise words and inspiring journey, Ekta Rana has proven herself to be one of the greatest voices in the music industry.
With Colours of Love, Ekta continues to explore her exploration of love.
