"Punjabi Aa Gaye Wembley Oye!"
Diljit Dosanjh made history on September 12 when he became the first Punjabi singer to headline Wembley Stadium.
The artist took to the stage shortly after 8 pm, opening with:
“Punjabi Aa Gaye Wembley Oye!”
The announcement was a significant moment for Punjabi music as thousands of fans packed into the 90,000-capacity stadium.
Diljit told the crowd: “This moment will go down in the history books.”
The performance brought together different parts of his musical career, with the singer moving between Punjabi sounds, rap and hip-hop during a set that lasted for more than two hours.
Fans sang along to some of his best-known tracks, including ‘G.O.A.T’. and ‘Lover’, while Bhangra dancing and phone lights filled the stadium.
The atmosphere was particularly energetic near the stage, where fans copied Diljit’s movements and danced together throughout the show.
Diljit also brought some audience members onto the stage, where he handed out gifts and took selfies.
Addressing those watching from the furthest sections of Wembley, Diljit told them they were “full of heart”.
The London show comes as Diljit Dosanjh’s career continues to expand well beyond the Punjabi music scene.
He has developed an international following during more than 20 years in the industry and has worked with major artists including Ed Sheeran and Sia.
His crossover appeal has also taken him into American popular culture.
He previously appeared alongside Jimmy Fallon, where the US talk show host described him as “the biggest Punjabi artist on the planet”.
In 2023, Diljit became the first Punjabi-language singer to perform at Coachella, marking another major milestone for the genre.
He later made his debut at the Met Gala wearing traditional Punjabi-inspired attire, attracting international attention for his look and cultural representation.

His Wembley appearance continued that trajectory, with Diljit Dosanjh performing in traditional clothing while maintaining the Punjabi identity that has remained central to his music and public image.
Diljit also revealed what’s next, announcing that he will perform at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in November 2026.
His Wembley concert ended with ‘Main Hoon Punjab’, which was accompanied by a firework display.
The Wembley stage represented another step in a career that has taken Punjabi music from regional audiences to some of the world’s biggest cultural stages.
