"Returning the favour to my brother Diljit Dosanjh"
Ed Sheeran caused a surprise when he appeared onstage at Diljit Dosanjh’s Birmingham show.
The Punjabi star is currently on his global Dil-Luminati Tour and on September 22, 2024, he performed at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena.
Diljit performed some of his hits but then he halted the concert and addressed the crowd.
Fans screamed and cheered as Diljit announced:
“Ed Sheeran aa gaya oye (Ed Sheeran has arrived).”
The British singer took to the stage with his guitar and belted out his hit ‘Shape Of You’.
Diljit joined in with ‘Naina’, from the film Crew, and it became a mashup with Ed’s soothing tone and Diljit’s energy.
Videos of the unexpected performance were shared on social media, with Diljit writing:
“My brother shut down Birmingham, what a night. Love & Respect. Thank You Birmingham. Lots of love.”
Ed Sheeran also posted a video and wrote:
“Returning the favour to my brother Diljit Dosanjh tonight in Birmingham, what an amazing atmosphere, thanks for having me!”
The collaboration comes six months after Diljit joined Ed in Mumbai to sing the former’s hit song ‘Lover’.
The crowd were in hysterics when Ed sang in Punjabi.
Diljit’s Birmingham concert was also a significant moment as he held his first-ever live concert in the city exactly a decade ago.
In the comments section, netizens loved the surprise collaboration as one said:
“Performance of a lifetime! Still reeling from the awe!”
Producer Rhea Kapoor said: “The year of Diljiiiiit and the year of Naina.”

Diljit encountered another unexpected moment during his Paris concert when one fan threw their phone at him.
But instead of getting annoyed, Diljit addressed the concertgoer and urged him to take more care.
After giving the fan back their phone, Diljit unexpectedly gave his jacket to him as well.
He told the fan: “Your phone will only get spoilt. Nothing will happen to me. So don’t do this.”
Diljit Dosanjh’s world tour has seen him perform across North America, Australia and New Zealand.
His UK leg of the tour is currently ongoing as he prepares to perform in London and Manchester.
Meanwhile, Indian fans were left disappointed when tickets were released and sold out within minutes.
