Junaid Khan, the son of acclaimed actor Aamir Khan, is set to start filming his Bollywood debut.

Rumours have been rife that he has been preparing for a while. He will make his debut in the film Maharaja and filming will start on February 15, 2021.

It was reported that a massive set was constructed for the film’s location.

Director Siddharth P Malhotra and the production team worked on setting the groundwork for the film.

A source said that Siddharth and producer Aditya Chopra have visualised the film as a big-budget drama, authentic to the period it is set in.

The source told Mid-Day: “Earlier, the team had locked a location in Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, to build the set.

“However, Adi sir felt the film would need a bigger set-up and finally zeroed in on Madh Island.

“The construction work will begin in a day or two. Siddharth is eyeing to take the project on floors by early 2021.”

Shalini Pandey, Sharvari Wagh and Jaideep Ahlawat are also set to feature in the film.

On his first day of shooting, his sister Ira Khan posted a heartfelt message for Junaid.

She wrote: “Junnuu! This wasn’t his first play or his first show or our first play together but… today is his first day of shoot. And I love this picture.

“He’s been acting for a few years now but it’s still new for me.

“He even acted my play so I should be over it… but I’ve been his younger sister longer than any of the other things.”

“His professionalism is unparalleled. I’m super excited for him.

“Can’t wait till he blows everyone away.

“And irritates them a little with his properness (HE REFUSES TO TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE FILM. SO IRRITATING. I WANT INSIDE SCOOP) and then I can go to set and embarrass and trouble him! #proud #excited #bigbrother #firstday #shoot.”

Maharaja is said to be based on the Maharaj Libel Case.

In 1862, the head of a religious group had filed a legal case against a newspaper that had exposed the sexual exploitation of his female devotees.

Junaid is set to play journalist Karsandas Mulji.

The source added: “Film Maharaja will reportedly trace how religious leader Jadunathji Brijratanji Maharaj had taken reformer-journalist Karsandas Mulji to court for his ‘libellous’ article, which stated that he had sexual liaisons with women devotees.”

While Junaid is set to start filming his first Bollywood film, his famous father Aamir is gearing up for the release of Laal Singh Chaddha, which is expected to release on December 24, 2021.
