“Directing drama is something I truly enjoy."
Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim has started filming his latest television project Shunno Theke Shuru, which is being shot in Canada.
The drama also stars Tanzika Amin and marks the return of director Shahidul Islam Mintu to television after more than 20 years.
Known for his acclaimed work in the 1990s, Mintu is currently based in Toronto.
He last directed popular dramas like Devdas, Priyotomasu, Bajimat, and Ebong Ami.
Now, he’s back behind the camera with NRB TV’s debut original production.
Shunno Theke Shuru follows the story of a Bangladeshi father who migrates to Canada, driven by dreams of a better future for his child.
The drama delves into the emotional and practical hardships that come with starting life in a new country.
The title itself hints at this central theme, with the father realising that migration life often begins from zero.
Mosharraf Karim and Tanzika Amin portray this migrant struggle on screen with depth and emotion.
The drama is written by Tanvir Nawaz, who returned to the media after an eight-year break.
Now a permanent resident of Canada, Nawaz has crafted the screenplay, story, as well as the dialogues for the project.
Mintu shared his excitement about returning to directing, saying:
“Directing drama is something I truly enjoy.
“Returning to work after so many years felt like stepping back into the past.
“Working with Mosharraf Bhai was a remarkable experience, his support made it possible to complete the shoot in such a short time.
“And Tanzika is both talented and dedicated, she gave the role her all.”
The drama is being produced by NRB TV, where Mintu also serves as CEO.
He noted that this project marks the beginning of regular original productions, including web series and telefilms under the network.
Mintu praised the writing team as well: “Tanvir Nawaz returning to writing has been a real joy, he’s a gifted writer.
“I’m grateful to the entire team, especially Pankha Monir on camera and Al Hazen in direction support.
“The technical team worked with dedication, and with this kind of support, I look forward to doing more projects.”
Shunno Theke Shuru is expected to premiere in September 2025.
It will introduce viewers to a fresh portrayal of the migrant experience.
The drama hopes to resonate not just with Bangladeshi audiences but also with global viewers who understand the trials of starting from scratch.
