Assam has faced a severe flooding crisis following heavy monsoon rainfall
Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa has pledged a total of Rs. 12 lakh towards Assam flood relief, including funding for 35 permanent flood-proof homes for affected families.
Randhawa has partnered with the Sikh Aid Foundation to support families whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged by the devastating floods.
The latest Rs. 7 lakh contribution will help construct 35 permanent flood-proof homes across Sivasagar, Jorhat and Nepali Khuti in Upper Assam.
The Sikh Aid Foundation thanked Randhawa for supporting its rebuilding efforts and helping affected families move towards longer-term recovery.
The singer’s latest contribution follows an earlier Rs. 5 lakh donation to the Hello Life Foundation.
That contribution supported immediate relief, including food, clothing, medical supplies and other essential items for displaced communities.
The latest initiative focuses on rebuilding rather than providing only immediate emergency assistance.
The 35 flood-proof homes are intended to provide affected families with safer and more permanent accommodation following the destruction caused by the floods.
Randhawa had previously used his social media platforms to raise awareness about the crisis.
In July, he urged people to unite and support flood-affected families, while sharing a message of solidarity with those facing the disaster.
Assam has faced a severe flooding crisis following heavy monsoon rainfall and rising river levels.
The situation has caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, farmland and livelihoods across several districts.
The crisis has particularly affected parts of Upper Assam, including Sivasagar, Jorhat and Charaideo.
Earlier official figures reported more than 700,000 people affected across 12 districts, alongside significant agricultural damage.
By late July, Assam’s official flood death toll had risen to 75, with authorities increasingly focusing on rehabilitation and rebuilding.
More recent reporting has highlighted the continuing recovery challenges, with thousands of families facing damaged or destroyed homes.
It was reported on August 10 that the flood crisis had claimed 100 lives, while more than 700,000 people had been displaced or affected.
Randhawa is among several Indian celebrities who have used their platforms to draw attention to Assam’s flood crisis.
Bhumi Pednekar, Papon, Adah Sharma and Raashii Khanna have also urged the public to support affected communities.
Their appeals have helped keep attention on the ongoing humanitarian situation and the need for continued assistance.
Randhawa’s latest contribution places particular emphasis on long-term rehabilitation.
Through the Sikh Aid Foundation partnership, the 35 families will receive support to rebuild homes designed to provide greater protection against future flooding.
His Rs. 12 lakh commitment therefore combines immediate relief with longer-term reconstruction.
