Jilted Indian Woman kills Toddler in Washing Machine

A woman has been arrested for putting a two-year-old boy into a washing machine and subsequently killing him.

The incident happened in the village of Khukhrain, Kapurthala, Punjab.

The boy was discovered in a neighbour’s washing machine during the evening of Tuesday, December 17, 2019. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead by doctors.

Police have identified the accused as Manpreet Kaur while the toddler was named as Adhiraj.

The victim had come with his mother Sunita and four-year-old brother to visit his grandparents and to attend his uncle’s wedding, which was set for December 22, 2019.

Adhiraj, his brother and another girl from the area went into a neighbour’s house while they were playing.

According to Kotwali police officer Satpal Singh, only two of the children returned.

Adhiraj’s family tried looking for him but were not able to. They subsequently went to the police who registered a missing person case.

Officers reviewed the footage from the CCTV camera in the area.

It showed the three children playing and then entering Kaur’s home at 12:47 pm on December 15, 2019. However, only two of the children came out at 1:18 pm.

On the night of December 17, officers executed a search of Kaur’s home. While looking over the house, officers opened the washing machine to find Adhiraj’s body inside, lying under a pile of clothes.

Kaur was arrested at the scene and taken to the police station for questioning.

Officers discovered that the woman killed the toddler in retaliation to her being jilted.

She had been in a relationship with the victim’s uncle and had expressed her desire to marry him.

When Kaur found out that he was getting married to someone else, she was left upset. Unable to bear the thought of him marrying someone else, she decided to murder the two-year-old boy.

Officer Singh said: “She killed the child in a desperate bid that her lover’s marriage would be postponed.”

When the children entered the house, Kaur lured Adhiraj and convinced the other children to leave.

She then put him into the washing machine and turned it on, drowning him.

A case of murder was registered. While Kaur was arrested, police have registered a case against four other people in connection to the case and efforts were being made to arrest them.

Officer Singh stated that the investigation was still at an early stage and that further inquiries will only reveal what happened.
