Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s mother, Madhu Chopra hits back at trolls who recently targeted her daughter over the dress she wore to the Grammy Awards 2020.
Priyanka wore a questionable gown designed by Ralph & Russo. The floor-length white gown featured extravagant tassels and diamond embellishment throughout.
Yet, it was the plunging neckline which reached below the naval that caught everyone’s attention for all the wrong reasons. As a result of this risque look, Priyanka fell victim to online abuse and merciless trolling.
Now, mama bear Madhu Chopra has come out in her daughter’s defence to combat the haters.
In an interaction with ANI, Madhu Chopra has spoken out about her daughter’s lavish dress. She addressed how the hate Priyanka has received has made her stronger. Madhu said:
“I am glad it happened because I feel it made her stronger that she lives life on her own terms. It is her body she can do what she wants and she is a beautiful one.
“I also sent her a saying that said, ‘It is my life’ so, I think that is the philosophy behind life.
“Trollers are anonymous people hiding behind their computers who don’t have joys in their life and I think they do it to get attention.”
Madhu further added that Priyanka had shown her a sample of the dress before she wore it. She said:
“I love the dress and she showed me a sample before she wore it. I thought it was a little risk but she carried it off well and she was one of the best dressed.”
Parineeti Chopra, who is the cousin of Priyanka, supported her and her aunty over the outrage the dress caused online.
She left a comment under a picture of her cousin on Instagram saying: “YASSS badi mumma absolutely.”
According to a recent interaction with US Weekly, the 37-year-old actress revealed how she avoided a wardrobe malfunction.
Priyanka explained how the designers incorporated a piece of fabric that was hidden beneath the gown. She said:
“Ralph & Russo, whenever they make couture for me or custom outfits for me they always do them fitted to my body, keeping these things ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ in mind.
“When I decided to wear an outfit, I’m not someone who’s really nervous because when I walk out of the door, I’m very secure.
“I don’t leave unless I’m super secure. I don’t like wardrobe malfunctions. Nobody does.”
Priyanka continued to explain how a tulle matching her skin tone was incorporated in the design. She said:
“So as much as people might think it would be hard to manage they found this incredible tulle the same colour as my skin tone and sort of held the dress together with that.
“So you can’t even see it in the pictures but there was no way it would have happened if they didn’t have that. It was like netting.”
It seems both Madhu and Priyanka are unfazed about the recent online trolling Priyanka received over her dress.
