"If they fail to reply on this, we will demolish the illegal construction at both the premises."
Madhu Chopra, the mother of beloved Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, has responded to an illegal construction notice from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on behalf of herself and her daughter.
It comes just a day after the BMC accused the Quantico actress of building illegal constructions at her office space in Oshiwara which includes commerical properties that have been rented out by the actress.
The buildings in question include a spa and salon, which sees the unauthorised installation of a mezzanine floor.
In response to the notice, a statement from Priyanka’s mother said that the family is cooperating.
A spokesperson for Madhu Chopra has said that they were coordinating with officials following the notice for illegal construction issued by the BMC.
The spokesperson said in a statement:
“We have received the notice from the BMC. We are coordinating with the officials and have already taken the required appropriate measures.”
Priyanka reportedly received a notice from the BMC on 2nd July 2018 for the unauthorised construction. The referenced premises are situated in suburban Oshiwara in northern Mumbai and named the Charishma Beauty Spa and Salon.
Under the MRTP, two notices have been issued to the owners and occupants of both the premises. Within these notices, the BMC demands that the 35-year-old actress remove the illegal additional structure and restore the original, which was given permission to be built in 2013.
The BMC has also said they received five complaints from the people who visited the spa alongside a municipal corporator.
Having checked the salon and spa, they found that construction laws had been breached. They found that the property had a mezzanine floor.
The BMC has given the owners and occupants of the premises a month to comply with their demands that the illegal structure be removed. If they do not cooperate, the BMC will be forced to demolish the illegal structure.
According to Bollywood Life, a senior BMC official has claimed that prior to this point, Chopra failed to respond to the BMC’s requests that she remove the illegal construction changes. They said:
“We earlier wrote them asking to regularize the unauthorized changed after paying the penalty and removed other illegal changes which cannot be approved.
“But they didn’t bother to pay any attention after which we sent them notice under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP). If they fail to reply on this, we will demolish the illegal construction at both the premises.”
It is believed that should the actress not comply with the notices, the BMC will demolish the illegal alterations. Whilst the Bollywood star may be away from her Mumbai home, her mother Madhu responded to the notice on her behalf.
Following a short stint in Brazil with her love interest Nick Jonas, Priyanka is currently back in New York. Both she and Nick have been spotted in the city meeting a friend.
Interestingly, the actress was also seen hanging out with Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita Khan and her adorable son Ahil. Arpita is currently in the States supporting Salman on his Dabangg tour.
