“What the f*** did I just watch?”
Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan has come under fire for allegedly promoting domestic violence and misogyny in his latest TikTok video which has since been deleted.
The actor came under scrutiny after viewers condemned the content of the video.
In the video, Kartik is seen punishing his sister for not making nice rotis. He is seen pulling her hair and throwing her off the balcony.
Despite the intended playful content, viewers were angered and labelled Kartik “disgusting” and a “misogynist”.
After the backlash, Kartik Aaryan decided to delete the video.
Acting in misogynistic films is one thing, bhai ye ab khud ese scripting aur directing bhi kar rahe hain?

Arsalaan Ahsan on Twitter reacted saying:
“You know how boys hate sitting next to girls in 2nd grade and then we grow up? I think he stopped growing up at that age.”
Anushka chimed in saying: “Oh my god I hate this man with such a passion” while another user questioned: “What the f*** did I just watch?”
Singer Sona Mohapatra condemned Kartik Aaryan for the TikTok video. She said:
“This guy has become a youth idol by consistently [star]ing in misogynistic films & is happy 2extend it to his disgusting #lockdown video.
“DV [domestic violence] in India is skyrocketing many women stuck 24/7 with their abusers. Call this out #India.

Sona also accused the actor’s PR of staging articles against her after she bashed Kartik for his video.
However, in an interaction with Film Companion, Kartik opened up about the controversy surrounding the TikTok video. He said:
“It was said that it promoted domestic violence. Think about it, if that had been the case, don’t you think my sister would have objected? Or my mum?
“They watched it before we uploaded it. Things are sometimes blown out of proportion as well.”
As a result of the negative reaction, Kartik took down the video. He said:
“After I deleted the video, many people asked me why I deleted it. There are two sides to everything. You just have to go along. But I am not promoting anything.”
Kartik continued to explain why he decided to delete the video. He said:
“I know it hurts some people’s sentiments, that’s why I deleted it. If someone was even slightly hurt by it, I should just delete it and not get into it. I wouldn’t really care about it.”
It appears Kartik Aaryan’s comedic attempt failed to impress the masses.
