"How did he get in it? Who designed it?"
Viewers of Good Morning Britain were not happy with Ranvir Singh, accusing her of being “unprofessional” for two reasons.
She and Robert Rinder had replaced regular presenter Susanna Reid for the February 13, 2023, episode.
But during the episode, Ranvir made a mistake when she referred to singer Sam Smith as ‘he’.
Sam Smith, who identifies as non-binary and uses the pronouns they/them, has already been misgendered on the show by Richard Madeley weeks earlier.
Ranvir made the error during an interview with fashion designer Harri, who created Sam’s extravagant latex look for the BRIT Awards.
Addressing the viewers, Ranvir said:
“Still ahead on Good Morning Britain – Harry Styles may have swept the board at the BRITs but it was Sam Smith who stole the show with this dramatic latex balloon-like suit.
“How did he get in it? Who designed it? And why did he choose…”
She realised her mistake and quickly corrected herself:
“They! Why did they choose it?”
Ranvir and Harri had been discussing Sam’s red carpet appearance in a balloon-like latex outfit.
The ensemble featured a high neck, inflated arms and legs and a zip-up design over the chest.
Speaking on the show, the Kerala-born menswear designer said:
“I had four days to make the outfit.”
Harri, whose full name is Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pilla, went on to say that Sam did a “fantastic job” in the awkward outfit.
The designer also revealed that no talcum powder was needed to slip on the suit, adding:
“They put it on like a tailored suit it’s made for them.”
GMB viewers criticised Ranvir Singh for misgendering the singer, taking to social media to voice their frustration with the presenter.
One user asked: “Good Morning Britain, Ranvir Singh, didn’t you brief correctly about pronouns to be used with Sam Smith?”
“Ranvir, it really isn’t hard to use Sam’s preferred and correct pronouns ffs.”
Calling her “disrespectful”, one person said:
“Ranvir forgetting to call Sam Smith ‘they’.”
Ranvir Singh angered viewers even more when they spotted her eating in-between segments and talking with her mouth full.
One person said: “GMB do we really have to listen to Ranvir Singh whilst eating?”
Another wrote: “I’m more annoyed by Ranvir eating between segments than talking with food in her mouth. So unprofessional.”
A third stated: “Ranvir eating on air, not very professional.”
