"So don’t be an insensitive idiot and post pictures"
Despite the current surge in Covid-19 cases across India, many Bollywood stars have been jetting to the Maldives.
Amid a hospital bed and ventilator shortage, social media is seeing its own spike in holiday pictures from various Indian film stars.
Celebrities soaking up the sun in the Maldives include Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
However, they are now being called out for being “insensitive” to the current pandemic, of which India is experiencing a violent second wave.
Writer and columnist Shobhaa De has backed a post made by Bollywood PR representative Rohini Iyer.
Iyer has slammed Bollywood celebrities for their open display of a “privileged life”, while those less fortunate are struggling in the battle against Covid-19.
Shobhaa De shared Rohini Iyer’s post to her Instagram account, agreeing with her belief that Bollywood stars are being “brainless”.
Uploaded on Monday, April 19, 2021, the post read:
“For all of you vacationing in Maldives and Goa and exotic locales, remember, it’s a holiday for you.
“It’s a bloody pandemic all over. So don’t be an insensitive idiot and post pictures of your privileged life.
“You’re not only coming across as brainless but also completely blind and tone deaf.”
“This is not the time to boost your Instagram numbers.
“This is the time to step up and help or if you can’t do anything, then shut up and stay home!
“Or stay quiet in your holiday home… masked up. No photos. This is not Fashion Week or Kingfisher Calendar time!”
Shobhaa De backed Rohini Iyer’s statement, and the caption to her post read:
“Hello!!! Listen up! Loved this post passionately articulated by Rohini Iyer. Wanted to share it here, and I am not good with techno stuff – Repost etc. okay?
“Idea is to get her message across. Well said @rohiniiyer. It is the height of vulgarity to flaunt those ridiculous pictures.
“Enjoy Maldives by all means. You are blessed if you can get such a break in these bleak times.
“But do everyone a favour… keep it private.”
Bollywood beauties Disha Patani and Shraddha Kapoor recently shared some alluring pictures from their vacations in the Maldives.
Lovebirds Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are the latest Indian film stars to take an island holiday.
The pair have been brutally trolled for leaving Mumbai on Monday, April 19, 2021, amid the Covid-19 lockdown in Maharashtra.
Bhatt and Kapoor have only just recovered from Covid-19 themselves.
