In a tweet from Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Priyanka Chopra said:
“The Covid 19 situation across India is grave. I’m seeing images and stories coming in from different parts of the country that are so scary…
“The situation is out of control and our medical fraternity is at breaking point.
“Please stay home… I beg you to stay home. Do it for yourself, your family, friends, neighbours, community, and also our frontline workers.”
Priyanka added that doctors and frontline workers have been advising the same thing which is:
- Stay home.
- Ensure everyone you know stays home.
- If you have to step out, wear a mask.
- Talk to those around you and help them understand this situation.
- Get the vaccine when it’s your turn.
“Doing this will help us ease the immense pressure on our medical system.”
Priyanka Chopra’s tweet has received multiple comments from users agreeing with her statement.
One praised Chopra for her note and said:
“Good to see you spreading the awareness amongst the people at this point of Covid crisis. Many of the celebs haven’t spoken at all.
“It hurts to see that they don’t use their outreach for good of people. Thanks.”
Another thanked the actress for her support, encouraging her to use her platform to help improve the Covid-19 situation in India. They said:
“Situation is worst in India, thanks for your support.
“You have global range, please write something which can open eyes of these politicians… Love India.”
The statement by Priyanka Chopra urging people to stay at home closely follows India being added to the UK’s travel red list.
India is the latest of 40 countries on the UK’s list of travel ban countries, alongside Pakistan and Bangladesh.
From Friday, April 23, 2021, those without a British or Irish passport travelling from India in the last ten days will be refused entry into the UK.
British residents will be allowed in but must quarantine for ten days in a government-approved hotel.
