Divyanka Tripathi came under fire for her reaction to the earthquake.
An earthquake struck Asia on March 21, 2023, with the epicentre coming 90 kilometres from Kalafgan in Afghanistan.
Countries that felt the tremors included Turkmenistan, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actress Divyanka Tripathi was in Chandigarh at the time and she posted her reaction on her Instagram Story, however, she seemed happy with the situation.
In the video, a smiling and giggling Divyanka said:
“Okay, this is very exciting because I’m experiencing my life’s first earthquake and you won’t feel it like this… the street has come down in Chandigarh.
“This is exciting, just for now. All the people from the neighbourhood have gathered downstairs until it doesn’t get stronger.”

Unsurprisingly, her excited reaction did not go down well on social media.
Many criticised the actress for her tone-deaf reaction to the natural disaster, which has killed at least 19 people and injured over 200.
One Twitter user wrote: “This is truly disgusting. Sorry, but how one can find an earthquake exciting and laughable?
“Being a celebrity doesn’t mean you will do anything for publicity, have a little bit of humanity at least.”
Another said: “Earthquake has affected her brain.”
One comment read: “People were scared, were in fear of losing their everything, and it was exciting for her seriously!”
Some mentioned the earthquake disasters in Turkey and Syria, calling Divyanka insensitive.
One said: “Imagine someone from Turkey or Syria seeing this after what they’ve been through! Natural disasters are NO joke!!!!”
Another wrote:
“She has lost it. Who posts such insensitive comments after whatever happened last month in Turkey and Syria.”
One user commented: “How insensitive and pathetic is she to make such a comment after all the deaths that have taken place in Turkey and Syria that moved the whole world.

Divyanka’s reaction also led some people to change their opinion of her.
Meanwhile, those who were not fans of Divyanka said that her reaction to the earthquake proved them right.
One comment read: “Never liked her anyways. And today she proved me right about my decision.”
One user stated that while she is entitled to her opinion, she does not need to make it public. The user wrote:
