Hazim Bangwar has addressed the criticism he received for the outfit that he wore at the 2024 Hum Style Awards.

A few days before the awards, he appeared on Dawn News’ Aap Ki Kahani, where he was asked about fashion.

Hazim said: “The people of Pakistan play it too safe for my taste.

“I have not seen Met Gala looks on the red carpet in Pakistan. Me personally, I consider that fashion.”

Hazim later made a striking appearance at the Hum Style Awards 2024, turning heads with his Met Gala-inspired ensemble.

His futuristic look, which he carried with unbridled confidence, quickly went viral on social media.

He wore an all-black outfit which consisted of a feather-designed collar made of what seemed to be leather.

He also wore leather gloves and pants and a plain black turtleneck.

Hazim’s post was captioned: “Pakistan might not have Met Gala but it has Hum Style Awards and a lot of style and talent.”

However, Hazim faced trolling, with some questioning its appropriateness for a civil servant.

One asked: “Why are you so influenced by the West?”

A user said: “Uorfi’s long-lost brother has been found.”

Another wrote: “You look like the throne in Game of Thrones.”

In response, Hazim Bangwar stated that he has a right to a personal life beyond his professional duties.

On Instagram, he emphasised his commitment to serving the citizens of Karachi with professionalism and compassion.

He also asserted his right to pursue his personal interests outside of work.

The post read: “I think that most people have forgotten that I’m human and like any other human, I too should be allowed to live my private life in peace. I’ve left a life of luxury behind to serve my public.

“The price for which I pay everyday by being criticised, trolled, bullied, and threatened for simply dressing well.

“Professionally I’ve carried my office with respect and dignity and always dressed appropriately.

“No doctor or officer wears their gowns or uniforms outside their office but I guess I’m expected to.

“My only aim is to serve my public as I have, and I hope to do that in peace.”

His fans came to his support.

A user said: “I think you’re awesome.”

Another added: “Don’t listen to those who are struggling to make their own mark even after staying in the office repeatedly.

“You are one of the most successful people I know.”

One commented: “Of course, everyone is allowed to do whatever they want outside of work premises. Pakistanis are just illiterate.”

Another stated: “I agree with you but you’re an officer. Your conduct in private life is reflected everywhere.

“Not saying it’s right but it’s the price that one must pay.”
