"Nugget is gay."
Fans of EastEnders have speculated that Davinder ‘Nugget’ Gulati (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury) is secretly gay.
The young man made his debut on the show on August 9, 2022.
He was introduced as the son of the established character Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).
The wayward EastEnders teen soon found a grandmother figure in Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).
Soon after his arrival, Nugget forged a close friendship with fellow teenager Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega).
However, viewers seem convinced that Nugget’s fondness for Denzel could stretch beyond friendship.
Recent episodes of EastEnders saw Nugget try to kiss Denzel’s girlfriend Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd).
The schoolboy then lied to his friend, saying that Amy was the one who made a move on him. This caused a furious Denzel to break up with her.
Amy then confronted Nugget and said: “We all laugh at you. Our mates.
“Denzel, the way you follow him around like a scrawny, lost puppy.
“Trust, your ‘boy Denz’ is desperate to drop you for his new gym mates.
“You are a pathetic little kid who is cramping his style.”
Nugget also asked Denzel to give him his steroids in order to look bigger.
Denzel appeared stunned when his friend told him: “Whatever you’re taking to get these results, give them to me too.”
Fans suggested that this meant that Nugget had feelings for his friend.
One fan said: “’I’d like to see Nugget struggling with his sexuality.
“The people around him (Ravi) trying to say it’s just a phase and then blame Suki for brainwashing him.
“Only for a few weeks before Nugget then identifies as bisexual and they all live happily ever after.”
Another viewer added: “I’m really starting to think that Nugget could be gay.”
A third simply declared: “Nugget is gay.”
In March 2024, the BBC announced that EastEnders was set to tackle an anabolic steroid plot.
This storyline saw Denzel embroiled in the pills in an attempt to impress followers.
They said: “The storyline will follow the experience of Denzel, and those around him, as he is introduced to steroids, highlighting the influence that social media has on his perception of body image as well as the impact on his mental health and relationships as a result.”
Chris Clenshaw, executive producer of EastEnders added:
“It was imperative for us to work alongside WithYou and individuals with lived experiences of steroid usage to accurately present and portray Denzel’s storyline.
“Jaden’s performance has thoughtfully portrayed the isolating realities of a steroid dependency as we explore how social media has an impact on his perception of body image and the effects that anabolic steroid misuse are having on the youth of today.”
Nugget Gulati is also the son of Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) and the brother of Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James).
EastEnders returns on Monday, May 20, 2024.
