The Mumbai Police have arrested television actor Rohit Chandel on serious criminal charges.
The actor has been arrested for allegedly molesting and stalking a 16-year-old girl.
The actor was taken into custody on Friday, July 10, 2026, by police officers.
He has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have also been applied in the case.
According to police records, the complaint was filed by the victim girl from Mumbai.
The girl is from Mumbai’s eastern suburbs and reported the harassment to authorities.
In her statement, she alleged that Chandel repeatedly called her on her mobile phone.
He continued to contact and harass her using multiple phone numbers persistently.
The harassment extended over a period of time, demonstrating a clear pattern of behaviour.
The complaint further alleged that on July 5, 2026, the actor followed her near home.
He confronted her in public and proceeded to verbally abuse her with harsh language.
He then physically assaulted her, causing harm during the encounter that day.
Police officials said the accused and the minor were known to each other previously.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Chandel under the POCSO Act.
He has also been charged under Section 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita specifically.
Section 78 covers stalking behaviour and repeated harassment of victims over extended periods.
He has also been charged under Section 115 (2), which covers voluntarily causing hurt.
Chandel, 29 years old, was arrested at his residence in Dahisar after police traced him to his address.
He was later produced before a Special POCSO Court for judicial proceedings.
The court remanded him to police custody for further questioning and investigation.
Confirming the development, a police official said the arrest was based on a complaint.
The official confirmed that the actor was arrested following the minor’s detailed allegations.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway by the dedicated police team.
