Police have arrested a married Indian man after he got a minor pregnant. The incident happened in Madhya Pradesh.
The accused was identified as 30-year-old Saravan Kumar, a resident of Garden Colony in Jalandhar, Punjab.
It was reported that he got the girl pregnant in 2018 before fleeing his home and getting married to a woman. Police revealed that he also cheated on his wife with another woman.
All three matters came to light following his arrest.
In 2018, Saravan had come into contact with the minor girl in Jalandhar and befriended her. He gained her trust by claiming he was married.
He then got her pregnant and later fled his home. The girl later gave birth to a baby boy.
On September 9, 2018, a resident from Basti Sheikh, Jalandhar, filed a complaint against Saravan, accusing him of kidnapping.
Police registered a case against Saravan and an investigation was underway.
During the investigation, police found out that Saravan had fled to Katra Mohalla in Madhya Pradesh and married a woman there on September 29, 2019. The couple also have a child together.
Police set a trap and arrested the married Indian man on November 2, 2020.
The minor girl was told to go to the police station. Upon seeing Saravan in custody, she identified him as the man responsible for getting her pregnant and said he had ruined her life.
Saravan’s wife was also at the station and was disgusted when she heard about what her husband had done.
In addition to getting the minor pregnant, Saravan also confessed to cheating on his wife with another woman in Katra Mohalla.
Saravan was produced in front of the court on November 3, 2020, before being remanded in custody.
Station House Officer Ravinder Kumar said that officers will take DNA samples from the accused and the minor’s child to determine if he is the father.
He added that Saravan faces action if the DNA samples are a match.
In another incident, a man from Odisha married a 15-year-old girl and got her pregnant.
Bibek Das and the girl had been working at a spinning mill when they got into a relationship. When the idea of marriage came to light, the girl’s parents gave their consent.
Das and the girl ended up getting married in February 2019. In May 2019, the girl fell pregnant.
On February 23, 2020, the girl went to Mettupalayam Government Hospital but was later referred to Coimbatore Medical Hospital College (CMHC) for a checkup.
When doctors found that the girl was pregnant, they informed the police.
