"Many people in the village are an eyewitness to this [rape]."
Mohammed Simraj, aged 27, from Bihar, was arrested on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, after he was accused of raping a pregnant goat.
The man was accused by a woman who said he had raped her goat. The woman, who was the owner of the animal, had said Simraj was in a drunken state when the incident happened.
After finding the goat dead, she filed a police complaint when she heard that many people had witnessed the crime.
It was heard that the alleged rape took place in the evening of January 15, 2019, in rural Patna.
The man, a daily wage labourer by profession, had consumed alcohol before he abducted the goat outside the woman’s home.
He then sexually abused the animal which led to her death.
The goat, which was three months pregnant at the time, was found dead behind the woman’s home. She later went to the police where they filed an FIR.
In her complaint, the woman said that many people in the village had witnessed the alleged rape.
In her statement to police, the woman said: “The goat belonging to me was white in colour and three months pregnant.
“Many people in the village are an eyewitness to this [rape].”
Based on the woman’s complaint, Simraj was arrested and bought in for questioning. The goat’s body was sent to a veterinary college for a post-mortem and other medical examinations.
This will help them to build a case against Mohammed Simraj in court.
Sub-inspector B.K Bhola of Parsa police station said: “The person accused of raping the goat has been arrested.
“We have sent the goat’s body to the hospital for a post-mortem and medical examination following which next action will be taken in this case.”
According to reports, the accused confessed to the crime and was charged with the relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code and the Wildlife Protection Act 1971.
As well as investigating the goat rape incident, police are also investigating how Simraj was able to consume alcohol even though it is prohibited in Bihar.
It was banned in April 2016. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced: “All types of liquor will be banned in the state from today.”
A similar incident came to light in July 2018 when eight men allegedly gang-raped a pregnant goat in Mewat district, Haryana.
The animal’s owner filed a police complaint against the men and they were subsequently arrested. It was reported that they drank alcohol before abducting the goat and gang-raping her.
