the four accused men are all related.
Uttar Pradesh police have arrested four men for filming themselves gang-raping another man.
The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida.
The four men gang-raped another man after befriending him on the dating app Grindr.
The men filmed the entire incident, then threatened to leak the footage while attempting to extort almost £2,000 from the victim.
It was reported that one member of the group, 20-year-old Gautam from Sikandarabad, befriended the victim and asked to meet him.
When the man got there, Gautam and three other men were already there. They then raped him and filmed the entire ordeal.
Police also said that the men called the victim afterwards and blackmailed him, threatening to leak the video.
An official spokesperson said:
“They later thrashed him and forced him to transfer £50 through PhonePe app to them.”
The police registered the group’s case under Sections 232 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 377 (unnatural offences) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code.
A report by PTI also revealed that the four accused men are all related.
Gautam and 23-year-old Gaurav are brothers. Sachin and Mohit are their cousins.
Upon their arrest, the police took the mobile phone used to film the gang rape and found at least a dozen similar videos.
Their investigation also revealed that 26-year-old Sachin is a repeat offender.
Sachin tried to commit a similar crime before, on an Assistant Engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
He has also previously demanded almost £175,000 from his family and was arrested for this offence too.
Unfortunately, gang rape is a common offence in India.
Recently, another gang rape concerning a 19-year-old Dalit girl occurred in Uttar Pradesh.
On Monday, June 7, 2021, the girl was trapped, dragged to a cane field and gang-raped by three men in the state’s Sambhal district.
The girl was on her way to meet her sister with her fiancée when the incident took place.
The victim lodged a complaint with the police, saying she and her fiancée were out on a bike when three men approached them.
They confined the couple, and dragged the girl to a field before taking it in turns to sexually assault her.
The men were later identified as Pramod Yadav, Satendra and Bhanu.
Speaking of the case, Superintendent Alok Jaiswal said:
“We have registered an FIR under IPC sections 376D (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) along with the SC/ST Act.
“A medical examination has been conducted and the girl’s statement will be recorded before a magistrate.”
Speaking of the culprits, Jaiswal added:
“The main accused, Pramod, has been arrested while the other two will be nabbed soon.”
