The woman suffered seven per cent burn injuries, mostly on her face.
A senior doctor at the Sassoon General Hospital said that the woman was in a stable condition.
The accused and the victim knew each other from childhood as they had been brought up in the same neighbourhood.
They had completed their education up to Class 12 and came from families of casual workers.
The accused wanted to marry the victim but in June 2020, she got married to another man.

On November 21, the woman visited her parent’s home.
After the woman arrived, the accused reportedly approached her and asked her to meet him near a local school at around 8.30 am on November 23, 2020.
The two met and the man brought up the topic of marriage. This prompted the woman to tell the man that she refused to have a relationship with him.
The woman asked the accused not to contact her and this enraged him.
Senior inspector Ram Rajmane said:
“Enraged by this, the youth pulled out a bottle containing some chemical liquid and threw it on her face.
