Police have arrested a 27-year-old Indian woman after she allegedly threw acid at her former boyfriend.
The shocking incident happened in the town of Khowai, Tripura.
It was reported that the woman attacked her ex-boyfriend after he refused to marry her. In addition, he stopped speaking to her.
Police have identified the accused as Binata Santhal.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old victim was taken to Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital and is in a critical condition. He suffered burns to his throat and nose.
The victim’s family members filed a complaint against Santhal and police registered a case. The woman was subsequently arrested.
During questioning, Santhal confessed to attacking her ex-boyfriend with acid.
She explained that she and the man were in a relationship for more than eight years. They had known each other since school.
After the man graduated, he and Santhal moved to Pune.
In March 2020, the man returned to Tripura and left Santhal in Pune. Over the next three months, the man ceased all contact with his lover.
When Santhal returned to Tripura in August, she went to the man’s home village but could not see him.
Santhal then moved to Ranchi in Jharkhand and started a job at a health training centre.
She soon learned that her ex-partner had got close to another woman and this angered her.
Santhal managed to make contact with her former boyfriend and met with him at his home in Belcherra village. At the house, she asked him to marry her.
When he refused, she took out a bottle containing acid and threw the contents at him.
Following her arrest, the woman was produced before a chief judicial magistrates court. She was sent to 14-days in judicial custody.
The victim currently remains in hospital. Police have said that it is likely that he will be scarred for life.
In an equally horrifying incident, a woman threw acid on her ex-lover after she found out that he had married another woman.
According to the accused Supriya, Nagendra promised to marry her, however, he married another woman named Laxmi.
When she found out, she met with him and threw acid at his face in a fit of rage.
Nagendra said that he and Supriya mutually ended their relationship. He also alleged that she had taken money from him.
Despite her claims that the attack happened in a fit of rage, it was revealed that she poured acid on his hand a week before the incident.
Nagendra’s hand was bandaged up which revealed further burn injuries.
