When the argument became heated, Jayan threw acid
A police case has been registered against an Indian man after he allegedly threw acid at his wife and teenage daughter.
The incident happened on the night of December 1, 2020, in the city of Kollam, Kerala.
It was reported that the man attacked his family members following an argument.
Both victims suffered burn injuries and were rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for treatment. It is believed that the woman is in a serious condition.
Police have identified the accused as K Jayan.
According to officers, Jayan was a driver who used to get into rows with his wife on a regular basis as he suspected that she was having an affair.
On the night of the incident, the couple got into an argument over her alleged infidelity.
When the argument became heated, Jayan threw acid at his wife. Their 14-year-old daughter suffered acid burns as she tried to help her mother.
Police revealed that two other children in the neighbourhood also suffered minor burns when they rushed into the house after hearing the cries for help.
Neighbours told police that the Indian man was an alcoholic and a drug addict.
They also said that Jayan used to attack his wife and daughter often.
The wife had registered police cases against him in the past. Jayan would be summoned to the police station and questioned before coming to a compromise with his wife.
Neighbours said that all would be well between the couple for a brief time then Jayan would resort to violence.
Police have said that Jayan has gone on the run. Efforts are being made to arrest him.
In another acid attack, a woman threw acid at her ex-boyfriend after he refused to marry her.
The accused, Binata Santhal, was in a relationship with the victim for over eight years.
They moved to Pune but in March 2020, the man returned to Tripura, left his lover in Pune and eventually stopped speaking to her.
She soon learned that her ex-partner had got close to another woman and this angered her.
Santhal managed to make contact with her former boyfriend and met with him at his home in Belcherra village. At the house, she asked him to marry her.
When he refused, she took out a bottle containing acid and threw the contents at him.
