Al Amin, aged 20, from Kurigram, Bangladesh was arrested after he allegedly abducted and raped a Pakistani girl.

The suspect’s brother Sumon was also arrested on suspicion of also being involved in the attack on the 17-year-old girl. Both have been remanded in custody as the investigation continues.

The victim’s mother also filed a police case against Amin’s parents and three other men.

It was heard that the girl came from Karachi to visit her father’s ancestral home in Gopalpur Upazila in November 2018.

Amin was obsessed with the girl and even proposed to her, however, her mother rejected his marriage proposal.

On April 16, 2019, Amin and an associate kidnapped the girl from her Uncle’s house and took her to an unknown location.

At the property, Amin raped her several times before he and his friend left her there.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Momen said: “On April 16, the prime accused, with his friend abducted the girl and raped her after the mother rejected his marriage proposal to her teen daughter.”

Police officers managed to rescue the girl on April 18, 2019, from a house in Sarishabari Upazila in Jamalpur district, but Amin and his accomplice were nowhere to be found.

The victim’s mother filed a police case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

In her police statement, the woman explained that she and her daughter came to Bangladesh to visit her husband’s ancestral home.

The girl’s father was of Bangladeshi origin and had moved to Pakistan 25 years ago where he settled down as a garment trader.

The girl’s mother alleged that Amin became agitated at the news that the girl was returning to Pakistan as their visa was expiring.

She said that he would follow her teenage daughter and she intervened when he began sexually harassing the girl.

Based on her statement, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Amin in Kurigram.

Sub-inspector Sadikur Rahman, leading the investigation, confirmed that Amin was arrested by RAB officers on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

He was remanded in custody until he was produced in front of magistrates on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

Judicial magistrate Rupom Das issued the order against a police appeal for a seven-day remand for Amin and his brother Sumon.

Sumon was remanded in police custody for four days.

Police officers also arrested Amin’s mother Anwara Begum, aged 47. She is also in police custody after the magistrate rejected her plea for bail.

The case into the rape of the Pakistani teenager continues. Police officers are searching for the other suspects involved with the incident.
