"Super outfit and a super debut."

Delhi-based fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi made a statement at her first Cannes Film Festival as she wore a self-made gown.

Nancy is best known for using her DIY skills to recreate iconic celebrity looks.

Sharing pictures of her red carpet debut, the baby pink gown featured a strapless silhouette, a sequinned corseted bodice and layers of tiered ruffles forming the skirt and the long train at the back.

Nancy styled the extravagant ensemble with sheer pink gloves.

She chose jewellery from CaratLane, wearing a dainty necklace, matching earrings, a bracelet and a statement ring.

Nancy rounded off her glamour with winged eyeliner, feathered brows, shimmery eye shadow, rouge on the cheekbones, mauve lip shade and mascara on the lashes.

Fans and celebrities loved Nancy’s Cannes look, with Esha Gupta posting:

“Best dressed girl.”

Arjun Kapoor wrote: “Super outfit and a super debut.”

One said: “Her success feels personal.”

Another commented: “It feels like we’ve walked the red carpet with her.”

A third added: “We don’t know each other personally. But a woman to another, a dreamer to another – you have done everyone proud.”

Nancy Tyagi impressed many with her self-made gown but a lot of work went into creating it.

She used an old sewing machine her mother operated to create the pink gown.

Revealing that it took one month to make, Nancy captioned the post:

“Stepping onto the red carpet at the 77th Cannes Film Festival as a debutant feels surreal.

“I poured my heart and soul into creating this pink gown, which took 30 days, 1,000 metres of fabric and weighed over 20kg.

“The journey has been intense, but every moment was worth it.”

“I’m overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for the love and support from all of you.

“This is a dream come true, and I hope my creation dazzles you as much as your support has inspired me.”

Born in Uttar Pradesh, Nancy Tyagi moved to Delhi with her brother and mother to seek better job opportunities.

At the time, her neighbours and relatives claimed that the money spent on developing her career would be better used in marrying her off.

Initially forced to live on the savings set aside for her education, Nancy bought herself a camera, hoping to earn money through her videos.

As a child, she taught herself to stitch by sewing clothes for her dolls.

In her videos, she would recreate designer garments worn by celebrities from scratch, buy fabric from local sellers in Delhi, create the looks in stunning detail, and model them on camera.

Early on, Nancy faced hate comments.

Trolls claimed she was too skinny and her videos were “cringe”.

Though she nearly very quit social media because of it, she continued to improve her design skills and stitching, producing her ‘Outfit from Scratch’ video series, which eventually grew in popularity.

Nancy added: “Now, the same people are showing me love. I don’t have haters anymore.

“Earlier I used to get comments that I was too skinny, but now the comments come in praising my stitching.”
