Tripta Tyagi has broken her silence and given the shocking reasons why she encouraged students to slap and hit their 8-year-old classmate.

Tripta Tyagi explains Shocking Reasons behind Viral Video

“There was pressure from the child’s parents to be strict"

In an unsettling video, Tripta Tyagi, a teacher at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, is allegedly seen instructing other children to hit a boy who is visibly upset.

Following this, Tripta reprimanded the students for not hitting the boy with more force.

The video captures her saying “jor se maaro naa” which translates to “why don’t you hit him harder?”.

The boy remains frozen before the class while his peers approach him individually to slap him across the face and back.

It was later confirmed that the ordeal lasted for one hour nonstop.

The release of this footage led to a surge of anger on social media, resulting in the filing of a First Information Report, the initial step in police investigation in India.

Dr. Ravi Shankar, a circle officer overseeing the Khatauli range in Muzaffarnagar, later acknowledged awareness of the incident.

Aravind Mallappa Bangari, the district magistrate of Muzaffarnagar, confirmed the registration of a complaint, asserting that the education department would take corrective measures against the school.

He appealed for calm among residents and assured them that the children were receiving counselling, while strict action would be taken against all those involved.

However, another video subsequently emerged on social media where Tripta attempted to defend herself.

She contended that due to her disability preventing her from physically striking the child, she instructed other students to do so instead.

She adamantly denied any bias toward the child’s heritage/cultural beliefs in her actions. Tripta Tyagi revealed:

“I made a mistake by getting the child beaten up by the students.

“I am handicapped and could not get up.”

She asserted that the video had been manipulated, with only a fragment of her statement being shown, further explaining:

“There was pressure from the child’s parents to be strict with him.

“The child’s cousin was sitting in the class.”

“The video was recorded by him which was later distorted.”

Despite her explanations, scepticism prevailed on social media, prompting calls for stringent action against the teacher.

Many thought her story and disability were being used as an excuse to cover her tracks.

Tripta also said to the Times of India that the reason behind the event was:

“I asked some students to hit him so he would begin to do his work.”

But again, her words seemed unconvincing to those on social media.

Shashi Tharoor, a Congress leader, expressed disbelief, writing:

“This is unbelievable. I cannot believe this is happening in our country and the people concerned are not in jail.

“All Indians must hang our heads in shame that this is what all our constitutional rights and freedoms can be reduced to.”

The father of the victim informed reporters of his decision to withdraw his child from the school, stating:

“I will not send my child to that school again, and they will return the fee that I have submitted.”

Shubham Shukla, Basic Education Officer of Muzaffarnagar, shared that the school would undergo an investigation to determine its compliance with standards.

He emphasised the video’s clarity in depicting the teacher’s role in instigating the children to assault a fellow student.

Whilst there is a massive fallout on social media that led to the hashtag #ArrestTriptaTyagi, a new hashtag of #ISupportTriptaTyagi has now been trending.

Thousands of people in India are siding with the teacher which is leading to further disarray in the country.
