"When you make a baddie wear a bindi."
Tyla made a fashion statement with her saree-inspired look, designed by Nancy Tyagi.
The Grammy Award-winning South African artist has been in India and delivered a high-energy performance at the Indian Sneaker Festival in Mumbai.
Tyla, who is of Indian heritage, embraced the culture in a custom creation by fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi.
Nancy teased the collaboration with a video of Tyla reacting to the outfit for the first time, writing:
“Did we just design an outfit for TYLA???”
Another clip was titled: “POV: When you make a baddie wear a bindi.”

Rather than reinterpreting the saree, Nancy crafted a piece that was almost cinematic: ethereal, sculptural, and unmistakably contemporary.
The mint-green, sheer ensemble fused the traditional saree silhouette with the fluid elegance of a modern gown.
The pre-draped pallu framed Tyla’s toned midriff while giving the look a fluid sense of motion.
A low-rise, figure-hugging skirt with front pleats and a dramatic train added couture sharpness, while the thigh-high slit injected red-carpet audacity.
Tyla paired the look with a bralette-style blouse with a plunging neckline and spaghetti straps. Glittering sequins, delicate embroidery, and the translucent finish heightened the outfit’s soft, feminine drama.

She completed the look with embellished heeled sandals, bejewelled nails, bracelets, a delicate haath phool, a choker, dangling earrings, and a gemstone-adorned bindi.
Her hair was styled in braids, with winged eyeliner, shimmery eyeshadow, glossy caramel lips, and glowing skin.
Tyla revealed that Nancy “stayed up all night” designing and making the custom outfit.

Speaking about the design process, Nancy said: “I designed this saree for Tyla as a way of bringing two distinct visual languages into a single expression.
“Indian technique carries a deep emotional history, a sense of artistry and I wanted that lineage to sit naturally beside Tyla’s bold, modern, and self-assured style.
“The structure, the drape, and the detailing were all crafted by hand.”
“This piece is meant to hold both identities with equal respect, allowing tradition to move freely with someone who defines her own aesthetic.”

Fans were in awe of Tyla’s style, with many calling her “the hottest” and “stunning”.
Jacqueline Fernandez gushed: “Oh my gawddddd.”
The actress was one of the first to meet Tyla during her India visit, calling her “a literal goddess”.

Tyla has become renowned for her fusion of pop and amapiano, a style that has led many to call her the “Queen of Popiano.”
Her breakout single ‘Water’ became a global success in 2023, charting in South Africa, the UK and the United States.
Tyla is also the youngest African artist to win a Grammy, adding to a collection of major honours.
Her accolades include MTV Video Music Awards, BET Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards, alongside nominations for the Brit Awards and Ivor Novello Awards.
She is looking to add to her collection of awards, following her 2026 Grammy nomination for ‘Push 2 Start’.
