Police are currently looking to arrest an Indian Muslim man for allegedly impregnating a minor Dalit girl.
The man, from Uttar Pradesh, reportedly got her pregnant under the pretext of marriage and pressuring her to change her religion.
This is according to the police of Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district.
The police registered a case against the man after the minor girl’s father filed a complaint against him.
In the complaint, he said that the man raped his daughter repeatedly over seven months.
The girl’s father also said that he went to his house to complain about it.
However, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Pandey, the accused threatened to shoot him.
The man’s family also told him that the pair can only marry after his daughter changes her religion.
According to Vinod Kumar Pandey, the case against the man has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The case has also been registered under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversation of Religion Ordinance, 2020.
According to the police, the incident is still being investigated. Police teams have been formed to arrest the accused man.
It is not uncommon for minor girls to fall pregnant as a result of sexual assault by older men.
In a recent shocking event, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested three people for forcefully converting and marrying off a 15-year-old girl.
According to reports, one of the accused men, Salim, brought the teenager to his hometown of Firozabad by telling her father he would get her treated for an ailment she had.
Once there, Salim, his father Abdul, and brother-in-law Rahman forcefully married her and converted her to Islam.
The girl’s father filed a complaint after she did not return home.
Speaking of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar said:
“The accused Salim brought the girl to Firozabad in the name of treatment and changed her Hindu name to a Muslim one.
“The accused Salim, aged 21 (years) married the minor girl, aged 15 years.
“The family members of the girl lodged a complaint…”
The case was registered under various sections of the IPC, POCSO Act and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance, 2020.
Ashok Kumar added: “All three of the accused were presented in court and sent to jail.”
