Lakhbir alleged that the police is not acting
An Ashram leader molested a mentally ill girl in his care. The depraved ordeal was captured on CCTV cameras.
The incident took place at Vridh Ashram, which is in the village of Rawalpindi, Kapurthala district, Punjab, India.
The accused has been identified as Dayal Singh.
According to the CCTV footage, the incident took place on January 19, 2020. In the footage, the Ashram leader is seen molesting the girl for almost three minutes.
A complaint was made by Ranjit Singh at Goraya Police Station. Police registered a case against Dayal under Section 354 (assaulting or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.
The case was registered on February 19, 2020, however, Dayal has not yet been arrested.
This has led to anger among the community and protestors soon surrounded Rawalpindi Police Station.
The Angle Blind Union, under the leadership of Lakhbir Singh, requested action to be taken.
They also demanded for Dayal to be arrested as soon as possible or else they would continue to protest.
Lakhbir alleged that the police is not acting on the complaint. However, officers claimed that they were currently being informed about the case by Goraya police.
Lakhbir explained that a written complaint has been filed at Rawalpindi Police Station and with DSP Surindra Chand.
In relation to the allegations of police inaction, the SHO claimed that the CCTV footage is at Goraya Police Station.
It was reported that Dayal Singh remains on the run, however, Lakhbir alleged that the case has not been registered by Rawalpindi Police.
He stated that the police want to suppress the case and want to prevent it from receiving widespread attention.
Lakhbir explained that there are numerous girls with mental illnesses who are being taken advantage of across India.
He went on to say that their carers are sexually exploiting them due to their physical or mental disadvantages.
In an equally shocking case, a man from Mumbai was arrested for marrying a disabled woman so that he could take sexual advantage of her.
Rajesh Patel and the woman had known each other for around six months. They first met outside the printing press office where she was working. The suspect had also worked there but left the job in 2017.
He persuaded the woman to accept his marriage proposal after he stated that he would make her happy.
On May 26, 2019, the woman claimed she was going to work but she actually met Patel and the two got married. He then took her to a lodge where he took sexual advantage of her.
He then told her not to speak about the incident.
When she returned home, she told her father what had happened. He then went to the police.
Police arrested Patel and took him in for questioning where he admitted to taking advantage of her disability so that he could have sex with her.
