"The post mortem report mentioned her neck was slit with a knife."
Indian man Harvinder Singh Bindra, aged 78, has gone on the run after murdering his wife at their home in Wanawadi, Pune.
He slit 66-year-old Devinder Bindra’s throat as he allegedly became fed up of caring for her. She suffered from mental health issues.
Bindra absconded but left a note which stated that he is going to take his own life.
Officers believe he committed the crime at around 11 pm on August 1, 2019. CCTV footage showed a man leaving the home at 12:26 am.
A police complaint was filed by his son Ramendra Bindra at Wanawadi Police Station.
Officers have said that the suspect has a son and two daughters. Ramendra lives in a neighbouring flat and has a clothing business. Bindra had been the owner of a hotel.
It was reported that Devinder had been suffering from schizophrenia for several years and her husband closed the hotel to go and take care of his wife.
Senior Inspector Kranti Kumar Patil explained that the couple originally lived in Darjeeling, West Bengal with their daughter.
Devinder had fallen off the apartment building and injured herself, leaving her bedridden. The couple then moved to Pune.
Bindra became unhappy caring for his wife which led to him killing her.
The incident came to light when Ramendra went to check on his parents. He found his mother lying in a pool of blood.
He immediately called the police and Devinder was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police searched the house and found the note. It read that Bindra killed his wife as he could not bear seeing her suffer and was tired of looking after her.
He also said that he is going to commit suicide.
SI Patil said: “The post mortem report mentioned her neck was slit with a knife.
“Devindra was suffering from a psychological illness for the past three years and Harvinder had been taking care of her.”
The Pune Mirror reported that the Indian man was booked for the murder of his wife.
SI Patil explained:
“We have found a note written by Harvinder, in which he confessed to killing his wife because he could not bear to see her suffer anymore.
“We have begun a search so we can stop him from committing suicide.”
Currently, Bindra has not been found yet and are unsure if he has already taken his life.
SI Patil added: “We are appealing to the public that if they spot the elderly man to please report to the Wanwadi Police Station.”
