"As an artist, I have to do my job. I know my intention was not wrong."

Rajshri Deshpande has expressed her anger over being called a ‘porn star’ after a clip from a Sacred Games episode showed her character taking part in a sex scene and went viral.

The actress, who was playing a character in the Netflix Original series Sacred Games, is reportedly furious over the 30-second clip that has made its way around the internet.

Within the episode that the clip was taken from, Rajshi Deshpande’s character makes love to her gangster husband. Out of context, it has been labelled a “porn clip.”

The clip which has been circulated on WhatsApp and YouTube has led to Rajshri articulating her opinion on the criticism that she has since received.

Social media users have targeted the actress with claims that she is a “porn star.” Alongside this, Rajshri has also been told that she should be “ashamed.”

Despite the criticism, Rajshri Deshpande has defended her job as an actress. She slams the people circulating the clip as immature and not understanding the scene.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, it is reported that Rajshri said:

“It was a tender moment between a husband and wife. Sex is a beautiful thing… coming close is a beautiful thing. It is unfortunate that people are talking about it this way.

“They are immature and don’t understand the relevance of these (sex) scenes. I am not dancing on something which is derogatory. I am making love to my husband and that too not in a crass way.”

Rajshri adds that she was only doing her job and was supported by the writers. She continued:

“I did feel bad about it (criticism), but I have to move on. I approached this scene as Subhadra’s character. As an artist, I have to do my job. I know my intention was not wrong.

“The writers (Smita Singh, Vasant Nath and Varun Grover) are very good at their job, they would not write something which is not relevant. It is not like a commercial item number, ki pehle item number becho, fir movie bhechege.”

Rajshri also told the BBC that she had nothing to be ashamed about. She also warned that technology could be a destructive weapon. She said:

“Why should I be ashamed? I have complete faith in my character and the importance of that scene to the story. My intention was right. I haven’t done any wrong.

“If you get a message like this, you need to think about what you should do with it. Technology is a weapon, it can be used to destroy someone or save them.”

Whilst the clip has attracted negative comments, Rajshri has certainly turned the situation around.

Batting away the negative comments, Rajshri Deshpande has stood up for herself and defended her role in the series.

Sacred Games premiered on Netflix in July and is India’s first original drama for the Netflix.

In an attempt to draw in more Indian viewers, the entertainment service has plans to release two more Indian series.

This includes the horror series Ghoul. As well as a murder mystery called Crocodile.
