Marathi actress Ishwari Deshpande and her friend have both tragically died in a car accident.

Deshpande and Shubham Dedge had been travelling in a car in the early hours of Monday, September 20, 2021.

The pair had been on the Calangute Baga Road in Goa when the driver suddenly lost control and the vehicle plunged into the neighbouring Baga Creek.

As the car was centrally locked, both the 25-year-old actress and her 28-year-old friend drowned and died at the scene near the village of Arpora.

They had been returning from their visit to Goa on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, but sadly never managed to arrive back home.

Inspector Suraj Gawas of Anjuna Police Station said:

“Primary investigation suggests that the mishap took place because the driver lost control of the car.

“After losing control, the car crossed over to the opposite corridor and again crossed over back before falling into a small creek.

“The fire brigade was called around 7 am. They managed to take out the car and the dead bodies of the two.”

Police Sub-Inspector Akshay Parsekar of Anjuna Police Station added further details:

“Based on the wristbands the two were wearing, we believe that they had visited a club in the area the night before.

“Dedge is a resident of Kirkatwadi in Pune, while Ishwari is a resident of another area in Pune.”

While nothing official had been announced, shocked friends and family of Deshpande and Dedge say the two were childhood friends and in love.

It was rumoured that they were planning to get engaged sometime in October 2021.

It is thought that the actress, who has previously starred in various Marathi serials, had wrapped up filming on a Hindi soap before her trip to Goa.

Ishwari Deshpande had recently shot two films including her Marathi silver screen debut, titled Premache Side Effects, directed by Sunil Chauthmal and produced by Jayashree Deshpande.

Meanwhile, veteran Marathi actor Vidyadhar Karmarkar also died on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the age of 96 from natural causes.

Although he worked in several films and commercials throughout his career, he was best known for his role as ‘Alarm Kaka’ in a Moti soap advert.

Once known as the face of Marathi theatre, Karmarkar also appeared in many Hindi movies including Kartik Calling Kartik, Lunchbox, Ek Thi Daayan and Ek Villain.
