"We had to edit it for some reason."

Makarand Deshpande revealed that one of his scenes in Dev Patel’s Monkey Man (2024) was cut.

He also admitted that Dev apologised to him following the turn of events.

In Monkey Man, Makarand featured as Baba Shakti.

The actor said: “For the premiere of Monkey Man, I went to California.

“Before that, Dev Patel said he wants to have a word with me.

“He said, ‘That’s the scene I love the most, but we had to edit it for some reason. For some political (reason). You understand’.

“And he just mumbled. I kept on looking at him and said, ‘Dev, wasn’t that scene the philosophy of your film?’

“He was like, ‘Oh yes, man, but you will still like your role. I am sorry, but you will like it’.

“When I saw the film, I said, ‘No problem’.

“But I know that scene — it would have been fun if that was retained.

“It had that punch, an edited scene won’t matter to the audience, but it matters to the actor.

“In my understanding, it was the soul of the film, it may not be for Dev. It is getting a lot of critical acclaim, might in the Oscar race later and is like their Satya.”

Monkey Man follows the story of Kid/Bobby (played by Dev) – a monkey-masked fighter who seeks to avenge the brutal rape and murder of his mother.

The film was scheduled to be released in India on April 19, 2024.

However, the arrival was postponed due to its violence, sexual elements and references to mythology and religion.

A source detailed the delay of the film and said:

“The film has excessive violence, and there are fears that some of its aspects might hurt the sentiments of the section of the audience.

“Hence, the censor process is expected to take time.”

“Also, the Universal Studios team in the USA needs to permit the changes asked by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification).

“Once they approve, the local team will carry out the changes, and only then, the team will announce the release date.”

In other parts of the world, the film has received rave reviews from fans and critics.

It marks the directorial debut of Dev Patel and is now available to purchase on Amazon Prime.

Since its release, Monkey Man has earned $33 million (ÂŁ26 million) at the box office.
