"Two people emailed in saying it was scaring them"

Naga Munchetty has revealed that she has had to stop wearing certain outfits on BBC Breakfast following viewer comments.

The presenter shared instances where she felt compelled to particular dresses after receiving complaints from the audience.

During her appearance on Room 101, host Paul Merton questioned Naga about the pressures of being a female presenter and whether she has faced criticism over her clothes.

She recalled: “There’s only one time I’ve taken it on board and never worn an outfit again. One and a half.

“The first time, I wore this dress on Breakfast and it had a geometric print and two people said it was causing them migraines, so I said ‘Absolutely fine, I won’t wear that again’.

“Then there was another one: I bought this brilliant dress, I still have it, this was about ten to twelve years ago and it was black and had all these eyes on it.

“Two people emailed in saying it was scaring them and giving them nightmares.

“So that one I have worn since but I haven’t worn it much.”

In the past, Naga Munchetty has received criticism for her outfits.

In September 2023, she wore a grey silk dress on BBC Breakfast.

She also opted for a glamorous makeup look and red lipstick. While many viewers loved Naga’s look, one person was not too keen.

In a now-deleted tweet, the user wrote:

“What is @TVNaga01 wearing?? Looks like she’s come straight to work from a night out at a sleazy single’s nightclub…”

After seeing what the viewer had said about her outfit choice, the presenter fired back, writing:

“Sssssh… don’t tell anyone. (btw – it’s called a dress).”

Naga’s revelation that she has had to stop wearing certain outfits follows an episode where she was called “rude” for spitting out food during a live segment.

She and co-host Charlie Stayt were tasting insect-based protein as part of a discussion with Dr Ralph Munders from the University of Surrey, who is conducting research into the benefits of entomophagy.

He came with muffins for the presenters to try. As they began sampling both a standard muffin and one teeming with bugs, viewers watched on.

Naga grimaced as she tasted the bug-laden muffin, promptly spitting it out into a tissue and washing down the unpleasant flavour with water from her mug.

Charlie asked her: “Which did you think?”

Naga remained quiet, leading Charlie to comment:

“Not speaking right now.”

Naga declared: “They’re both pretty bad if I’m honest.”

On the other hand, Charlie seemed to enjoy the insect muffin, saying:

“I don’t think so, I quite liked the first one.”
