"Witness the legacy of Indian cinema."
Raj Kapoor is one of the most popular and talented actors of Indian cinema’s Golden Era. He was born on December 14, 1924.
Dubbed the ‘Showman of Indian cinema’, he began his career in 1947 with Neel Kamal.
The very next year, he made his directorial debut with Aag (1948).
With the release of Aag, Raj became the youngest actor-filmmaker in the world at that time.
Among the many hits he helmed, Aawaara (1951) became a Bollywood classic.
The film starred Raj Kapoor along with his father Prithviraj Kapoor and Nargis.
In exciting news for classic Hindi film lovers, Aawaara is set to re-release in the 4K format.

In the 1950s, Raj formed a unique triumvirate of actors that also comprised Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand.
The 1950s and 1960s saw the three stars reign supreme as the stylish heroes of Indian cinema.
In December 2022, the Film Heritage Foundation in India celebrated Dilip Kumar’s 100th birth anniversary by re-releasing some of his most iconic films.
These were Aan (1952), Devdas (1955), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), and Shakti (1982).
In September 2023, they repeated this feat for Dev Anand.
The audience watched CID (1956), Guide (1965), Jewel Thief (1967), and Johny Mera Naam (1970) in restored versions on the big screen.
In a documentary produced by Simi Garewal, Raj said: “Films are my life, my benediction.
“Over the years, I have grown to realise that I could not have known this beautiful world and its people as I have done through making films.”
Apart from Aag and Aawaara, Raj Kapoor also directed hits such as Sangam (1964), Bobby (1973), and Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985).
Fans in India can catch the restored version of Aawaara on September 13, 2024.
