Ranvir Singh candidly shared the “upset her birth caused” as she took to the hosting seat on ITV’s Lorraine.

The presenter opened up on being the third girl in an Indian household and the “upset her birth caused”.

Ranvir spoke about her childhood during a chat with Jake Quickenden.

Both Ranvir and Jake had been chatting about the latter becoming a father for the third time with his wife Sophie.

The pair announced that they are expecting a third boy.

However, their gender revealed caused controversy as Sophie appeared to be disappointed by their unborn baby’s gender.

In an Instagram video, the pair were huddled around a cake with their two boys.

At the same time, they dug into the cake with a champagne flute, revealing that the inside was blue, meaning Sophie was carrying another son.

But seemingly disappointed, Sophie said on camera:

“Where are all the girls at.”

Their followers were upset with her reaction and said they “should be grateful” that they are able to have children.

On Lorraine, Jake defended his wife’s reaction and said:

“I am a boy dad so I was always happy but maybe there was a little bit of ‘I wish it was a girl’ from Sophie.

“I was never about shopping as some people suggested as she can do that with the two boys, I guess from her part it was more like, being there at the birth of her baby and maybe picking the wedding dress for her.

“I thought it was brave of Soph to admit that maybe she did feel a certain way.

“It was really brave and people are always going to have opinions.”

Ranvir said she understood how the couple must have felt while highlighting that it is kind of a “taboo subject” that people do not speak about.

Celebrity MasterChef contestant Jake reassured:

“But after 10 seconds of that initial ‘where are all the girls at?’ she was like ‘omg, it’s going to be amazing’.”

However, Ranvir Singh appreciated how important a newborn’s gender could be while drawing on her Indian heritage.

She explained: “You know coming from an Indian culture everyone wants a boy, it’s a big big thing and I’m the third of three sisters.

“So all throughout my childhood, I was told by my mum’s best friends ‘oh when you were born everybody cried, we all cried, everybody was so miserable’.”

Ranvir added that she made light of the situation.
