Vedika Bhandari talks ‘Murshid’, Career & More

Vedika Bhandari is an artist of personality, promise, and potential.

She has entered show business with a bang, appearing in memorable films such as Dream Girl (2019) and several acclaimed television shows.

These include Virgin Suspect (2021) and Indori Ishq (2021).

In the upcoming ZEE5 web series Murshid, Vedika is all set to dazzle as she stars alongside Tanuj Virwani.

DESiblitz had the opportunity to speak to Vedika Bhandari where she delved into Murshid and her glistening career.

Vedika gave us some thought-provoking insights and we are thrilled to share them with you.

Can you tell us about Murshid? What is the story and what is your role like?

Murshid is a gangster-based story. The titular character is played by Kay Kay Menon and Tanuj Virwani plays his son.

It is a total cop and gangster story and I play Sunita who is Tanuj’s wife – the police officer’s wife.

She is a small-town, middle-class girl who is very basic and very simple.

She loves her husband but they are having some issues and it’s how she deals with them is her character.

Sunita is unaware of Murshid’s world and what’s going on with her husband. 

She has no idea but she really respects Murshid and loves her husband.

What attracted you to Murshid as an artist?

I thought it was a very good story and I felt like it is something that the audience would really like in today’s day and age.

I think these sorts of stories are being watched more.

Also, for me as an actor, Sunita is a very different character that I have played. 

I don’t think I have played anyone like her.

How has it been working alongside Tanuj Virwani?

I’ve known Tanuj for years now and he was one of my first friends in the industry.

It is very rare that you get to work with a friend. It’s usually the other way around in that you work with someone and then you become friends.

I knew Tanuj already and I got to work opposite him. He is just one of the best people as a person, actor, and as a friend.

I had the best time working with him. Because we were already buddies, I think we had a lot of fun on set!

I told him that I wished we had a longer schedule because it was so much fun working with him. 

Keeping the friendship aside, I think he is a great actor and very easy to work with.

As an actor, I think that’s a great plus point.

Can you describe how you select projects?

I think I go with my instinct. If I feel, ‘Okay, fine. This is something I should do’.

I don’t think too much but I always take some advice from my close friends, people from the industry, and my parents.

Because I think their advice can sometimes help you pick the right projects.

Of course, some storylines and roles just attract you. They could be something that you’ve been wanting to do forever.

Or they could be something you have watched and you’re like, ‘You know what? I want to do this’.

Finally, you get the opportunity to do that.

How has your entry into show business changed your life? 

Honestly, I feel like it has made me a better person.

I think being a part of this industry, you grow up very soon. You learn so many things about the world, people, and everything.

I have become a better person because when you work on a set, you don’t work alone.

You’re in a team and there are so many people you have to deal with and talk to.

Then, you have to go in front of the camera and give it all that you have.

Otherwise, when your work gets appreciated, a few people click a picture with you, and they’re so excited, I think it’s a good feeling.

I just wish to keep working, entertaining the audience, and surprise them with different kinds of roles. 

What genres and roles do you hope to explore?

I would definitely want to do an action-packed role someday – I’m going to manifest it!

I want to do a simple romcom. I haven’t got the opportunity yet to do something like 10 Things I Hate About You (1999).

Just a simple romcom. I haven’t had the chance to do so yet. Hopefully, very soon!

Which other artists have inspired you in your journey?

I truly love Priyanka Chopra Jonas. I think she is somebody I definitely idolise.

Her journey has been incredible. The person she is, the way she carries herself, and the way she talks I think are things I completely look up to.

Otherwise, I would like to say that we meet a lot of actors during our journey.

I think I have been lucky enough to get good co-actors.

I have heard a lot of stories where people do not have the best co-actors and they have issues and problems.

I have been lucky that all of my co-actors have been incredibly nice, and wonderful at their craft, and they have been so inspiring and so good to work with.

What advice would you give to other young actresses hoping to make it big?

I am going to say that in this industry, people can give you a lot of advice.

But you’ve just got to learn with your own experiences.

At the same time, don’t let anyone make you feel less and don’t give up on your dreams.

I think consistency is key in this industry. One day it will happen. Just keep at it.

Believe in yourself and don’t ever let anybody make you feel small.

Can you tell us about your future projects?

I am currently doing a film and I play a small part. 

I’m excited about it but cannot share much. I do have another web film coming out very soon.

And I have another web show coming out soon. I hope they release soon.

I can’t give you names right now but once I have more of an idea, I will definitely let everyone know.

What do you hope the audience will take away from Murshid?

I just hope the audience has a good watch, they get entertained, and they like our performances.
