"you have to be sure this is someone who’ll be a positive force"
Ranvir Singh has spoken about her relationship with Louis Church and his role in parenting her 12-year-old son, Tushaan.
The Good Morning Britain host started dating 29-year-old Louis in 2020 when they worked together on Strictly Come Dancing.
Louis was a producer on the show while Ranvir was a contestant partnered with Giovanni Pernice. She finished fifth after being eliminated in the semi-final.
Ranvir has now opened up about introducing her son to Louis.
She highlighted the importance of a strong male role model:
“I think when you have a child the bar is so much higher.
“You can take risks with your own life, but when you have a son you have to be sure this is someone who’ll be a positive force in his life.
“And Louis is. He does all the football games with Tushaan. He does the fishing, all the things I couldn’t do.
“I think it’s a huge worry, the question of who your child’s male role models are.”
Ranvir revealed in 2024 that she had separated from her husband, Ranjeet Singh Dehal, over a decade ago while pregnant with their son.
She initially announced their split in 2020, but later clarified the separation had happened eight years earlier.
Ranvir said at the time: “I have actually been a single mum since I was seven months pregnant.
“I’ve kept that so quiet but I am okay to talk about it now.
“Now I’m at a point in my life where I think that I’m learning to embrace my whole life and to not compartmentalise it as much, to keep everything separate. And that’s a me thing.”
Ranvir Singh also addressed her cautious approach to introducing Louis to her son:
“I think anybody who’s been in the position I’ve been in plays it very cautiously. It really isn’t just about you and your feelings.
“We can throw caution to the wind for ourselves, but when we have children, our foot is always hovering over the brake pad because you think, ‘Hang on a minute, this isn’t just about me’.
“It’s not just about the relationship itself, but even thinking, ‘Have I got the time to introduce somebody? I don’t want to dilute my time with my son’.”
Reflecting on love, she said:
“Falling in love is a very brave decision, and to do it well is a lifelong journey.”
Ranvir and Louis’ relationship raised eyebrows in 2021 due to their 18-year age gap. However, she has defended their dynamic.
She previously stated: “What really matters in any kind of relationship in life is a synchronicity of values and emotions.
“I don’t know why we’re so obsessed with the age gap.”
